Last year as all of you know, Horsepower TV had a project 76 Corvette.
I have not been able to find the episode for sale on DVD or VHS. What I am looking for is a product list that they used for the episodes when they rebuilt the Front and Rear Suspensions and Brakes to help with my rebuild.
I may not need their list if any of you could give me some advice.
I have a well-worn and neglected 80 Coupe. It will be a daily driver - no autocross or racing.
I do have auto rebuild and repair experience - but NONE with Corvettes.
I plan on first rebuilding the suspension and brakes. My plan is to use rubber, not urethane rebuild kits front and rear for smooth and non-squeaky ride. VB&P 330# rear fiberglass replacement spring, stock replacement front springs, Beef-ier sway bars front and rear, 255/60-15's all around. I plan on replacing all screws, bolts, and fasteners.
For brakes I do not know if I should just rebuild the stock calipers and get new rotors, or go with replacements like Ecklers O-ring calipers. I will replace the lines at the wheels and the master cylinder.
Later will come the engine rebuild and eventually a swap for a TREMEC 5-speed.
Any advice on suspension or brakes?
Thanks ahead of time.
Since money is no object on Horsepower TV they used the most expensive VB&P suspension kit, with the front mono-spring. if I remember right they used Baer brakes. You'll probably want to pick up one of those $1,500+ March serpentine pulley sets also, just to make things look nice under the hood.
It will probably take a little longer than the 90 minutes or so that the Horespower TV crew spent to complete your project, though.
Yea Rick, I thought I would buy a $5,000 car lift to start things off. You know how we all hate rolling around on a creeper and using jack stands.
Seriously, I really appreciate the info guys. I am surprised how much good info you guys have passed along in just an hour or so.
thanks,
Mike
I've got the entire series of episodes, and am working on making a DVD of them. I could send some out for those interested when I'm done authoring it all.
They have been re-running those segments here on Sunday morning on Spike TV. Just saw the brake/suspension segment last week and probably have it on tape.
I saw the episodes myself and they really did a nice job. Like spmeone already stated...money was no object for them. I am sure they got their parts for a reduced price or for free in exchange for advertising.
The part I am more interested in is the rear trailing arms that they had made to allow wider tires. Anyone know what they were?
