Default Update

Sorry it's been a while....
been working on the prep and what can I tell you, love and hate, how much is this blasted car worth to me arrgg...

Anyhow I'm not going for show just a nice driver.
Update:
Capt'n Lees worked great, took it all down to the glass and neutralized well. Let it sit for about 3 days in the sun to make sure all solvents had dried out.
Since my body was in really good condition I chose to block the body first with 220 to smooth out some minor OE waves and problems spots/repairs that were done in glass. After that shot 2 coats of SPI epoxy primer/sealer, great stuff, great company and people! I let this sit overnight and the next day came back and shot 2 coats of SPI high fill 2K primer, again great product and the sandability is excellent.

Blocked and blocked and blocked and oh yeah blocked some more....hate this car... ....done, no more, you're good enough.

Last night I got the door jams/insides in color 2 coats (painted with doors on the car) turned out nice, tomorrow the whole thing goes down to the booth for a complete reshoot using Matrix Systems BC/CC, the color match, flakes etc are exact to OE and the price is great. Will update pics shortly.

Thanks to all for your support and help!

[QUOTE=vettfixr]I washed each panel as I completed it. I didn't want the chemicals to stay on the bare fiberglass and to be honest it makes the process a little less messier. Some of the seams on my car showed cracking through the original paint jobs and there were some shrunken areas as well. To make the repairs I ground out the seams in a V pattern which ended up with an area about 1 1/2 inches wide and then laid in fiberglass and resin in 3 layers. Once it was cured I sanded everything flush and repaired any low spots with more resin and fiberglass.
I also used Captain Lees and washed each panel as soon as it was stripped. I agree with the process of grinding a v groove over the seams and adding three layers of fiberglass thats exactly what I did. It's alot of work to do it the right way, but I think its worth it. lol

Sounds like you're moving forward rather nicely. Keep up the good work.
And BTW, you don't have to tell me how much work is involved in getting the body ready for paint...been there, done that!

Default IT's PAINTED

Well weather delays, pending rain for the last few days have driven me nuts, supposed to shoot Tuesday, chance of rain on Tuesday, clear Wed, reschedule...Tues is super nice Wed, same thing
Finally Thursday clear, and Friday clear get the car to the booth, supposed to be there Thurs morning, Towing company minute=4 hours late, only had time to mask the car before closing hours.
Friday shoot BC/CC...as soon as I finish Rain ???? what happened to clear weather?? ahh...that darned Tuesday

So rain, so what, booth has a minor roof leak, had to patch that up to while I was there as well...

So now she sets drying, tomorrow tow home, who knows how long that'll take, then the color sand and polishing begins. Actually I only have two small runs in the clear out of the rear bumper light openings that will be wet sanded smooth and anything else that I may have missed, but overall I'm happy with the results, the color is very nice and the finish so far looks good. Time will tell the durability of the overall work, but heck for my first Vette paint and only my fourth car in 16 years...I'm happy

a few booth shots:

Looks great, man. Once you do the color sanding and buffing, you'll have a mighty fine looking ride. Jud
