...had many Chevelles when I couldn't afford Corvettes. Now, I have four Corvettes but can't afford Chevelles.
had these below...
1966 Malibu 283 auto convertible
1965 Malibu SS 327 auto
1967 Malibu convertible 230ci 6cyl with "3 on the tree"
1968 Malibu 307 auto 2 dr hdtp

1969 Chevelle SS 396/325hp auto 2dr hdtp
1968 Camaro SS 350/295hp 4spd
1966 Chevy Impala 283 auto 2 dr hdtp
1966 Volkswagen
1967 Buick LeSabre 4 dr hdtp
1968 Ford F-100 302 3spd on tree
...plus others I can't think of right now...
...the '67 Chevelle SS 396 pictured below is what I owned the longest out of all the above cars. It was one of ONLY 612 L-78 396/375hp Chevelles built in 1967. It's one of those eBay cars when restored right will fetch $75k or better and I let it go in '84 for $4500.
...I street raced it in my late teens and lost maybe 3 out of some 19 races...was 396/375hp, bench seat M-20 4spd with 3.73 gears and she did FLY...fastest car I've ever or probably will have owned...
...13yrs ago had a chance to buy it back for $12K and I passed...

Lots of good cars that everybody has or wants. The rarest HiPer. car
that I have seen among my friends & family was a NASCAR Mustang.
I think it was a 69, maybe a 70, (don't know the mustang history all
that well). It had a 429 Hemi with the battery in the truck and had a
production # in the first 10's. When you open the hood all you seen was the heads touching the inner panels. I once seen him at a traffic
light with a line of traffic. He snapped the clutch and pulled a 3 foot
wheelie with only about 25' of room in front of him of the car in front
of him. He sold it in the late 80's to pay off his house. Got 18,000 for
it. Wonder what it would be worth today.

I miss my 81 Trans Am, I had to sell it to pay the closing costs on my house (along with my '67 Gibson V...... sob sob). It was in abso-tively perfect shape, perfect black paint with red interior, and recaro seats. Ram Air III block, 428 heads, etc etc.
I wish I still had my 75 Grand Am too, it was the best winter beater around - 400ci with a single barrel carb and a muffler that fell off every time I went over railroad tracks. When I hit passing gear, it pinned you and all your friends that you crammed into it into the seats. I used to slide into snow banks and do donuts in empty parking lots in the winter with everyone hanging out the windows and moonroof. Lotta fun. I paid 300 dollars for it LOL.
After seeing some of the VW/Porsche guys here, I'm not so embarased about this one , my truly most favorite of all, my '73 Porsche 914 that I just got rid of to finance my Vette and buy a wedding ring for the new old lady.... It was originally Zambezi green, with the 'trim and handling' package, and a 1.7 with dual 1 barrel IDF's. I pulled the car apart and put a GT kit on it (flares, spoilers, etc), 911 suspension, wide wheels, and built a 2.0 into a 2056 - about 125-130 horsepower, and 1700 pounds WOOOO! That was the MOST fun car to drive and NUTTIN wailed around corners like it. The targa roof stored in the back trunk, it was mid-engined, and got 25-30 mpg, even while wringing the snot out of it with the 5-speed. It topped out at 'around' 115 too, and at higher speeds, it kinda sunk into the road and handled perfectly.
All my friends would laugh at it because they had these Roadrunners and Camaros and blah blah blah, but when I took them for a ride and went 95mph onto an on-ramp, and afterwards could stop so quickly that they were peeling their faces off the dashboard, they gave it a little respect. I WILL have another one someday.

Been out of town for a couple of weeks. Just saw this thread.
'57 210 2 dr Chevy, 365 hp 327, 4 sp, 5.57 olds rear. Fast and fun. Sold in 1970.
'50 Chevy Pickup. 300 hp 327, TH400, 3.43 Olds rear, Cadillac brown with real gold flecs in the paint, absolutely beautiful vehicle. Sold in 1973.
'70 Ponitiac Tempest, 350, 4 sp. Sold in 1975
'76 Dodge Aspen R/T, 318, 4sp. May not sound like much but this was a smooth riding vehicle that got 25 mpg on the highway. Sold in 1978.
'99 Ford Lightning, still have it and love to drive it.

I'm pretty happy with the ones I have now, but I'd love a '70 'Cuda/Challenger.
The cars that got away: had a '68 Mustang GT/CS 4-speed that a tree fell on. Basically needed a new roof and I had a body guy that had a wrecked 'vert in his yard. He wanted $1200.00 to put the vert in my California Special and I passed. Loved that car. The other one was my '64 GTO A/T that I sold when son #2 came along. 12.80's through cast manifolds and the full Tullius road-course treatment. Many a startled sporty car owner with that beast when we got to the twisties!
I do need a '61-'62 Impala to plop my 2x4 425/409 in, but patience is required on that project. It'll happen. One other car I still have is an RX-3 Mazda with a full cage that's for sale.
Cool thread!

I have owned varying oldies over the years... 78 camaro-project that i never completed... 73 nova-scariest car I've driven (made my then girlfrien now wife throw up in that little beauty)... 78 T/A- Very fun car but too expensive to fix every weekend... and my new pride and joy 79 L48.
If I could have any other car I would have to go with a 1970 Chevelle
I have always love those cars. Beautiful body style, Comfortable and were a smooth ride. They don't beat the hell out of you like my C3

I would love to get a Trans Am like jlelec's (my oldest son's favorite car). A '65 Chevelle would also be high on the list. Currently this is what I cruise in when not in one of the Vettes- a '64 GTO convertible with a 389 Tri-power and 4-speed:

I'll keep the list pretty short, I could go on for days.
61 Impala, 348 3 dueces 4 spd
66 Chevelle, big block, 4 spd
65 or 66 GTO
65 Coronet Hemi
68 or 69 Road Runner
Not listed in any order and I wouldn't care if they were original or not, clones would be fine (then I could beat on them even more and not have to worry about it!)

Have my sights set for '56 or '57 Continental MkII ... all are large 2-door cars ... all hand-made ... rather limited production ... rarely seen even when new.
Here's a fair example that recently failed to meet reserve on ebay:

I've had a bunch from muscle cars, to 50's classics, to street rods - some I wish I had back and others I don't. I think the one car I wish I had back the most is my '55 Chevy 2 Door HDTP (Turquoise and India Ivory of course ). I sold it about 7 years ago to buy an F350 Diesel Pickup (the Pickup is long gone of course).
My current project (besides the '69 Vette frame-off) is a 1938 Dodge Biz Coupe. I have been working on it for ~ 5 yrs but it has taken a back seat to the Vette and is probably jealous . She knows I'll be back It is a street rod project and has a 4 spd auto, GM 350 HO Deluxe crate motor and a Ford 9" rear. Also has Mustang II independant front suspension, along with many other "typical" street rod mods.
Here's some pics (doesn't show some of the recent work):
As I found it (all orig)
