Default trans cooling lines

i need some help!!! my trans cooling lines on my 75 vette rubbed a hole in each other. so i thought it should not be to hard to replace two lines. my question is where the line enter the trans i cannot get a wrench up in that tight area. now there is a canister on the side of the trans with a line that runs up topside. do i have to remove that canister to get to the lines or is there a tool out there to get to remove the nuts on the trans lines. any help would be great.

thanks scott

its a tight spot but if you lie under the car there is one spot that a small open end wrench will fit on and you will get a 1/4 turn....it is a PITA

Use a line wrench on those, if you round it off with a regular open end your screwed.

A little more work but you remove the crossmember and lower the trans. Just be carefull of the distributer cap when you lower it.

I've found that doing this and lowering the transmission a little makes the line removal and relacement much easier. Probably worth the time and effort. Just make sure that you support the tranny adequately. If it falls, you'll end up replacing lots of stuff including the distributor.

It just took me 6 hours last weekend to get the upper line bent and connected on my 700R4 swap. I went from a TH350 to 700R4. When I removed the TH350 I remember using a crow's foot on an end of a 3/8" rachet with some extentions and wobble head (be careful not to strip threads). After I got the lines bent correctly, this is the same method I used to tighten them back up. I also did the wrench from above by sticking your arm through the top of the tranny/floor and turning it very very slowly.

removing the cross member should be much easier than removing pass seat, center console, removing carpet, and doing a bubba mod to the floorpan.

Sorry guys, I unscrewed the console carpet (30 seconds) pulled the carpet/padding back (5 seconds) and opened up the floor with a cut-off wheel (2 minutes).

Like I said, the floors were replaced before anyway. If there's a problem, the guys on The Forum gave it their blessing first (okay GSC3 did it before me anyway....)
