Has anyone used the setup off a early -mid 90's pickup?
I have a 95' chevy p/u & the serp system looks real compact & looks like it will bolt right in with no problems. Plus the truck systems should be very pleantiful at the wrecking yards.
The truck system is too tall for the C3. If you measure from the crank pulley center to the top of the belt tensioner housing (tallest point), it will be 18.70 inches. This is about 1.50 inches too tall.
What year are you refering to that it won't clear?
I have a 76 which has a taller hood than the 68-72 sb vettes.
Not doubting you at all, I was just wondering what year vette you are basing this on.
If you have an aftermarket hood that is taller in the front (where the accessories are) you may clear. Later rubber body mount cars are only 3/8 taller on the frame.
My information is based on careful measurement of the truck serpentine setup and retrofit onto a 68 big block w/factory hood. The tallest point on my conversion is 17.10 inches from the crank centerline to the top of the tensioner.
Thanks alot for the info. Guess were back to square 1.
Is the camaro or the s10/ blazer setup shorter?
Thanks agian!
I think they are same heights, just different widths.
Artsvette73 - If you can measure you're from the crank center line to the top of the alt, tensioner, and A/C...I can compare that to my Camaro serp system, and even though I don't have an A/C installed I can give you the alt and tensioner heights.

The fullsize Chevy truck and S-10 serp system are the same. The Camaro and others have air pumps on the AC side and this is a problem that can be fixed with an idler pulley in place of the air pump. The difficulty with a C3 retrofit is, a low hood, clearance with the passenger upper A arm and clearance with the PS pump and the crossmember.
Almost anything can be made to work. However, this was a more difficult conversion than i thought it would be.
You are correct it is to tall for a stock hood. But I am running an aftermarket L88. The hole system was off an S10 alt,p/s and compressor. Long w/p rev. rotation. And electric dual cooling fans. Been running for 3 years now not a problem.

Art, can you measure the height of your system? Use the crank center line, and measure to three places. Th tallest point on the alt, tensioner arm, and A/C compressor. Then, measure width, from the compressor to the alt.
I want to compare your numbers from your S10 serp to my Camaro serp.
It will take me to measure the height, the car is in storage for the winter. When I go there next time I will take measurements
No big deal...I thought the car was out where you could look at it. Don't rush. I can measure the serp system on my buddy's truck later tonight, and my Camaro system tomorrow.
