I don’t want to force it and I can figure out what I forgot.
I have removed all lifters and removed the fuel pump and the cam shaft will only come out two lobes and then it seems to bind. I have tried reinstalling the gear and also tried a 6” long bolt like one of the books suggested.
It’s a 74 350ci engine and is out of the car on a stand.
yes it usually comes out pretty easy. It may have some crud built up on it thats binding on a bearing. will it turn while its coming out? Be careful, go slow
It might be catching on a lobe. How are you holding the cam as you pull it out? They make these handles but I just bolt the cam gear on it. You need to make the back of the cam come up as you pull it, otherwise the lobes catch on the journals. Pull on the top of the cam gear, push in on the bottom and try it.
This is a strange one. If'n you've removed the fuel pump and lifters and the fuel pump rod is down, I don't see what else can be holding ya. How bout spraying a little WD40 or PBblaster thru the lifter holes to possibly remove some varnish.
