Default Wilcox vs. Ecklers Reproduction Part Differences

We are in the process of redoing my interior and need a couple of items for which I want the best fit possible. Can you all comment on which items fit better between the two suppliers?

Shift Console Housing
Wilcox $105 http://willcoxcorvette.com/product_i...ducts_id=24119
or
Ecklers $150 http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...dept%5Fid=1644

Rear Compartment Unit I am switching from a 3 door to a 2 door storage compartment (anybody do this before and anything I should be mindful of doing the swap?)
Wilcox completely assembled for $137
or
Ecklers for more monies about $160 in all and I have to assemble from what I can figure out from the website

Again...I am mostly interested in fitment and quality vs. price right now.

Thanks...Rob

Default Go with Wilcox

I have two vettes C3's and just directed a friend that has a '72 to
go to Wilcox. Guess what - he saved about 33 % - most of these
parts come from the same supplies/factories so the products are the
same.

I used to use Eckers and spent a lot with them. Current experience
- prices, customer service, quality - led me to Wilcox.

I like Willcox the best of all. Their prices are generally a lot less than the others and they are super nice people.

My #2 choice is Corvette Central.

I have used Ecklers and they are good too.

I have used Mid America a few times but I think their prices are high.

I have a folder for Vette stuff in my internet favorites. It has a quite extensive list of Vette part suppliers. All of the major vendors are there, but they are there in order of their utility to me - price, fit, finish, and customer service. I have Corvette Central, Doc Rebuild and Paragon as my top 3, though Willcox has great prices and get their share of my business too. There are generally just 1 or 2 suppliers for reproduction interior parts, so the product isthe same from vendor to vendor. I virtually always price compare between vendors, and as a frequent purchaser, take advantage of discounts and/or free shipping offers. Most of the majors will offer a project discount based on large parts orders over a period of time. These are worth it for the individual restoration project, but for those of us whose cars are continaully morphing in new directions, I find it better to keep my options open rather than rely on a single vendor. I try to stick with the specialty vendors for the specialty parts, even though I know the big vendors carry those parts too. Dewitts, VBP, etc. are my first choice for their product specialties, partly because we owe these guys for stepping up to the table with improved products. Sometimes, just like the General did it isn't good enough. my .02

Another vote for Wilcox. Every part I've purchaced from Wilcox has fit. I can't say the same about the other suppliers. I will soon be buying weatherstripping from Wilcox.

We (DeWitts) sold our interior division to Mid America back in 2004. At this time, only Mid America and Auto Accessories manufacture these rear storage assemblies. Ecklers uses Auto Accessories for all it's interior parts.

needed a rear spindle flange for my '81 4 spd. a very difficult part to get. checked the Wilcox site but none were listed. called some other places, but no luck. took a chance and called Wilcox hoping they had one, but was not listed. they didn't have it, but happily gave me the name and number of a guy they thought might. had it the next day UPS. that's customer service.

My opinion is that Eckler's is fast becoming the worst of the major Corvette part suppliers. Of the last few orders I have placed, I have had nothing but problems. One of the parts I ordered, an a/c evaporator for a '76, was advertised as a new AC Delco in its catalog. This item turned out to be a remanufactured unit from old evaporator cores. Worse, it had actually been on back order since January of this year and yet they continued to take orders for as of October without advising me of this. Another orded was for a compressor hose for the same vehicle and it was made imcorectly and yet they continue to take orders for it. They have done nothing but waste a great deal of my time with their nonsense. Of parts that I ordered which were correct, I found the quality to be poor. Their customer service also leaves a lot to be desired. My advice is to stay away.

I used Wilcox and saved a bundle and love the quality of the products. Most of the stuff I bought from them are the same thing drop shipped direct from the other guy at a cheaper price. How does that happen? hahaha

I use Willcox ALL of the time. There parts come from Corvette America (as do most vendors). I have had no problems with the quality or the fitment. They even offer nice discounts on quanity. Just call and ask for a quote.

Interesting that if you click on the Ecklers link above. There is a box that says guaranteed lowest prices (among other things).

Thanks for the suggestions....I will contact Wilcox to get the rest of my parts. I have already ordered several other parts from them, but in the past they have been very slow for shipping, I am currently waiting on some general items that I ordered 2 weeks ago and have had a similar experience about a 3 months ago ordering parts with them not telling me there would be a several week delay and then it requires me to call them to find out when my parts will be shipped. They don't tell me at the time of ordering the parts could be delayed several weeks before shipment. But I will try them again since I need to call them today to find out where my other parts are at.

At least you will get the correct item as advertised from Wilcox. This is not the case with Ecklers. Again, I suggest staying away from them. I realize I have brought this up a couple of times but I just don't think Ecklers has a clue of how to run a Vette parts operation any more. It used to be a great place to get parts, and I used to always use them. But more recently, they've gone to the dogs and I want no part of them.

Just spoke with Wilcox...all is in good order. They said to give them always 2 weeks at least before shipment of any items to either have the item made or process the orders. Ugghh!!! I totally understand their situation, but like a little kid...I can't wait till x-mas morning for my new parts.

I ordered the Wilcox 2 Door Complete Unit to go in my 69. I am needing a little extra room for an Alpine amp that I bought too big to fit through the 3 door opening and don't want to redo the speaker box since I just completed it and it is very nicely done except there is no room for the amp.

Thanks...Rob

btw...I have ordered the pre-cut stereo bezel for a CD player so I will take pics once that is installed for you all to see how it looks installed.

i think you'll be very impressed with wilcox. i have used them extensively and have always had nothing but the best service and product knowledge from them. i ordered an entire (and i mean entire) interior restoration from them right down to nuts and bolts ceiling to floor, wall to wall. they saved me loads over everyone else and all the products delivered to me were the highest of quality from the best of suppliers. personally, between them and dr rebuild, i can't think of a reason to go elsewhere unless neither of them have the part(s) you need. my 3rd and fourth choices are corvette central and dynamic corvette if it comes to that.
