Default vibrations through all rpms range...

i'm just coming back from a cruise on the motorway...on a hard acceleration fm 3rd to 4th at about 5.000 rpms i've noticed an unusual and pretty hard vibration, you can notice it mainly at the trans shifter, it reduces going at lower rpms but does not disappear completely...also, on a standstill rush i've noticed (going back home) some 'movement' right in the centre of the undercarriage...like if there was something loose (driveshaft or trans).
the car has a 570hp (530tq) engine and an uprated rear end (diff/4.11 gears/3.5'' half shafts/HD TA) built by van steel with many tom's items...driveshaft is stock (2.5'') and trans is a loyal and fearless t-10 4 speeds...

i'm afraid there is something out of place down there, where should i start looking?

thanks/Giu

If it was me I would start by checking motor mounts, tranny mounts, diff mount, and u-joints.

Did you get that driveshaft rebalanced for the new setup? If not, find a good driveline shop and do that first.

Might have lost a weight off the drive shaft - if you had a weight in the first place. Then check U-Joints.

If you have a fan driven by the water pump check both of them for loosness and wobble.Make sure your harmonic balancer didnt move.

a worn crankshaft pilot bushing can also cause this.

To resolve this issue with my brother's '76, he had to replace the rear hub bearings that were bad on one side and going bad on the other. This was done after the U-joints were replaced.

Good luck,
Dino

double check it. I seen people pay out the rear to shops
to find a vibe, 99% of the time the driveshaft went bad.

You really should. Remember that you are now spinning the drive shaft faster (perhaps considerably depending on the previous ratio) than you were before for any given road speed and you were talking revs of 5K plus, so it certainly could NOW be an issue. As someone said, perhaps you threw a weight (could have been loose and now with the higher revs, finally let go), or some other driveline problem has surfaced. I believe it's worth a check.

You said you can feel it at a stop ,in netrual or running down the road, check trans mount,
I had a bad pilot bushing or someone installed the wrong one and you could feel it at high rpms only, but yes check driveshaft u-joints,trans mount, motor mounts and rear end first before diving in the clutch pilot bushing.

If it was me I would start by checking motor mounts, tranny mounts, diff mount, and u-joints.
But if it isn't those I would bet its the T-10 trans input shaft bearing. The BW T-10 is rated for about 375 ft lbs of torque. The ratings are for that amount of torque continuous for 24 hrs. A fourth gear upshift is going to a 1 to 1 ratio. All of the torque is loaded directly onto the input shaft bearing. None to the cluster. A 5000 rpm powershift to fourth gear puts an instant, terrific shock load on that bearing. The tire slip that cushions the shock does not happen as easily in the higher gears so the instant driveline shock is greater. The weak link always breaks. I know you like 4 speeds not the 5 speed so check into an Autogear Super M-22 Rockcrusher. Direct bolt in. It will take whatever you throw at it. I can connect you with a good supplier if you need one.
