Nearly all of the companies that offer lifters are re-packagers including those selling camshafts. They just place them in there boxes. Two companies, Johnson and Stanadyne are the leading manufacturers of lifters.

You get what you pay for. While there are only a few manufacturers, but they don't make exactly the same lifters. And there are off-shore brands as well (read that as cheap). Of course, if you have a super-fat wallet and a somewhat small brain and believe in overkill, there are always Schubeck: http://www.schubeckracing.com/componentsmain2.html
Johnson aka HyLift-Johnson aka TopLine HyLift-Johnson ... they're very good and still made in USA after MANY years. They manufacture & supply many of the biggest names including OE.

Johnson ... "The Beautiful Lifter" ... good stuff ... call 'em
BEWARE of offshore or foreign made lifters! Johnson is a good quality and I think Standyne went back into production too. My good friend owns a automotive machine shop, he used to buy quality lifters for about a buck a piece on 128 piece crates, the went through hell about 2 years ago finding flat tappets, the supply situtation is much better now. Know that lifter tolerances are critical down to the tenths of thousands of an inch, you don't want poor quality in this area. Also remeber to use a good quality oil with Extreme Pressure Additive which is getting harder to find (Valvoline race oil, Kendall GT-1, and most Diesel oils still have a good EPA in them.)
