I've got moroso valve covers on my 79. They came with no holes or openings for either an oil fill cap or breather. There were perforations on the underside to remove round sections along with grommets in different sizes. On the drivers side I punched it out and installed the pcv valve. On the pass side I installed a moroso breather , the one that looks like a mushroom, inside probably foam filled. Anyway my problem is this, there is no baffle underneath the opening so eventually the foam fills with oil and leaks out in occasional drops. This leakage falls right on the exhaust manifold and gives off a puff of smoke and the resultant smell. Any suggestions? Was thinking of changing to a filter type breather kind of like what the ricers use ( oh no) , the look like small K&N type filters. Will this type fill up with oil also?? What do you think?

If you've got that much oil (and pressure) on the breather side, the problem lies on the pcv side. The breather should only be a filtered inlet allowing air into that head space. The pcv side should be causing a vacuum on that side so that air flows from the filter, through the pcv and into the air cleaner.
Where have you got the pcv hose hooked up? Have you recently checked the pcv for clogging?

PCV is hooked up to the carb, havent checked it for clogging. I would imagine its got oil all over it also,

Easiest way to check the pcv valve is to shake it. it should rattle. In either case, I'd remove the hose and clean it out as well as replace the pcv valve. Assuming that the hose is hooked up to the right port on the carb, this should take care of it.
If it doesn't, you might have a significant issue with blow by. Time for a compression or leak down test then.

Brand new motor so I hope blow by isnt an issue, I think its more just the oil splashing around in there after getting pumped up and soaking into the breather, I will check the pcv valve,
