Default Any difference in 80 - 82 batwings?

Looking at buying one & one site insisted on the model year (80-82). Is there any difference & if so, which one is preferable?

BAT WINGS are those appendages that allow a bat to fly,, also used on corvettes starting in 1980 til ??? that the rear end bolts to and then is bolted to the frame. Peace,,,Moosie

80 is basic carb, so less headaches
81 has computer control on carb
82 is crossfire injection: some like it,some hate it.All 82s are auto, but if you want auto it's a step up from previous years.

Maybe my bad, but what has this to do with the batwing question?

80-82 batwings are the same. Nice and light weight as they are aluminum.

Gear ratios are the only difference.

They are the same but as for the diff, not only the gear ratio differ. The 80&81 automatics use stub axles w/ smaller bolts (and smaller diam. halfshafts) and you can't redrill the stubs as the holes are not in the same pos.

Thanks, I'm going to bolt it to the cast iron housing in my 79 (ala beejay). Just wanted to make sure there were no bat wing casting changes that affected any particular year.

You are exactly right about the bolts, I have had an 80, 82 now 81 and I forgot that tidbit.

So,,,,T T, let me ask you,, when I finally find some ambition and start to finish this project that I've been ignoring for over 2 years,,,,,, will I be able to use the rear out of the 80 automatic and the stubs from the 82 without any problem. It is my understanding that the 80 has a better ratio (performance wise) then the 82 but the stubs and such are trash on the 80, it should work,,,,,,,,correct ? Sorry for the semi hijack of the thread,,,,,,,,,Peace,,,Moosie
