Default Lock up converter wiring connection

OK...I have a good look around the tranny on my 81 and can't find any wires / connector on the tranny for the lock up conv function. Could someone advise where exactly the connection is? Since my 81 was converted to non emissions carb / dist etc., I am now thinking the transmission may have changed for something else.?? Any thoughts here? The transmission works great and shifts with authority....but I was hoping to top it off with having lockup. I have already tried shorting the test connector to ground....no results

Its on the drivers side of the tranny, middle of the pan on the pan lip, 4 wire connector goes into the harness behind the engine

I have read once that not all 81's had lock-up convertor. Never really
feel mine lockup on mine 81. I think I feel it at times but see no rpm
drop and am wondering what speed is that the lock-up is suppose to
take place.

Maybe this is the case, as my trans has no connector at pan, nor can I find evidence of any wiring harness.

Is your trans a 700R4? Best way to identify them is by pan shape, the TH 300, 400 and 700R4 all have different pan shapes and will bolt right up to a SBC with no issue. If it is a 700R4 the lock-up is on the drivers side up about mid case with either a 2, 3 or 4 prong connector. In actuality you only need one wire connected to control kickdown (all in the same switch), eliminate the lock-up wire altogether on a 700 to avoid the cycling which burns up converters, the 700's are also pressure driven meaning the converter will lock up when called for by pressure and not need the electric signal at all.

The kick-down signal on the otherhand is very useful. Lots of info on how to best tune a 700 online, best though is to identify what you have first.

hope that helps
