I need help. my car ( a 1977 corvette) is missing the expansion valve for the air conditioner system, do you guys know where i might get one? i've already tried eckler, zip, and all the local guys and they say that they dont have one, or cant get one. some are even tring to sell me a orifice tube instead. i dont even know what this thing looks like. thanks for any help...
I don't think this will do you much good, but saturday Im going back up to the body shop, I can remove the cloth and take a shot of the AC overflow(if I still have one on my car)...this may help you locate a replica? I may not be able to get at it though, because the car might be fresh in primer :D :D
I may be mistaken, but I think the 77's still used the VIR (stands for "valves in receiver"). This is what is on my 73, and I think it was still in use up to either 76 or 77. The receiver dryer has the expansion valve (and I think a overpressure valve) integrated into the top of the unit.
If the system has been open to the atmosphere for any amount of time you need to replace the receiver anyway, and with the VIR you get new valves at the same time. If I remember correctly mine cost about $70.00 from Orielly Auto parts, I would give you the part # but I can't find the receipt now.
