Default Wont Start

Fellas
Need some help. Was driving maybe a mile from the house when the car started running rough then quit. Wont start now.
Good spark at the coil. replaced the rotor cap and condenser, points have less than 1000 miles on them...no joy.
Will replace the cap tomorrow (parts stores closed). gas is not old smell fuel while attemping to start, even tried starting fluid and it did not try to fire. Drove the car yesterday no problems....Any ideas?
Thanks
Mike

Are you getting spark at the plugs? I've seen condensation in the cap cause this. I am assuming you had rain last night like we did so maybe drying the cap might help.

Also, leave the cap off & crank the engine. Does the rotor turn? Always the possibility the dist broke, but not likely.

As stated above, check for spark at the plugs. If okay, check for fuel output to the carb. It's got to be a problem related to one of the two. Once you find out whether it's fuel or electric, you are well on the way to isolating the problem. (Make sure you have fuel in the tank )

Default More info

I do have spark at the plugs but not sure if it is "good" enough. Rotor turns and I do have fuel.
I replaced the condenser and rotor cap no change...I will replace the distro cap after work. Just seems odd to just quit like that.
I did not feel any condensation in the cap. The car was running ok for a mile then rough then quit!
Mike
how do you tell if points are bad?

might try spraying some starter fluid in the carb and then see if it will start momentarily. if it does, it's probably a fuel starvation problem. if it doesn't its probably a spark problem.

They should be flat on both sides and relatively clean. If there is build up on one side, they need to be replaced. Be sure there is no grease from the cam on them. If you don't know how old they are, replace them, the rotor, and cap.

I would suspect something like a timing chain if you have good spark and fuel. Pull the #1 spark plug and crank the motor to top dead center, use a mirror or whateve you can to see inside the hole. If it just straight up and died on you, then something major has happened.

Good luck and keep us posted,
Dino
