Hi Everyone,
I have a 81 in which the Heater Controls do not light up when the Headlamp switch is on. All the other dash and instruments lamps work. I've looked for a bad bulb but I can't even locate a bulb near the controls. How do they light this thing? Thanks for any and all info.
The light for the heater controls is emitted from above, right between the air conditioning vents. If you place your finger on the top of the cluster you will feel a whole that is where the light comes through.
If you take out the top, side and bottom screws of the radio and gauge cluster. Pull the cluster out, you will see the bulb on the top a gray and black wire are connected by two phillips screws.
FYI The bulb is a 558. I could not find it at any of the typical auto-parts stores. I ended up purchasing it from Zip's Corvette $2.50 plus $6.00 for shipping. Oh well I needed it. Next time I'll look into replacing it with a LED type bulb. Tim
