Default Wiring up an LT1 Swap

Hello all,

I was hoping one of you could chime in with some tips as to how to sort out the factory wiring harness on an LT1 engine, specifically what I need to hook up and where to get the engine to work. I'm keeping the stock 4 spd transmission and have already purchased what I need to make that work. The harness that came with the engine (a 1995 corvette LT1) is uncut, and basically includes everything that comes forward of the fire wall, but the relay center is not there as it was inside the car I believe. I'd hate to purchase an aftermarket harness as Im positive I have what I need already to make it work. I have the factory manuals for both my car (1976) and the donor car (1995). Any advice to point me in the right direction would be a great, great help. I've already perused the forum/archives and while there is a great amount of information, nothing really in regards to more a more specific installation. Just occured to me that I also have a copy of the JTR TPI engine conversion book, but again, while the information is great in there, they aren't too specific.

Thanks for the help!

You just have to get in there and figure out what wires on the LT1 harness do what. I think most of it is self contained. You will have to have VATS removed from the PCM. Probably there is a connector that was on the car that is all that is needing to be dealt with. Should have batt power, switched power, ground, and fuel pump wires in there that you will need. You will have temp, oil pressure, and VSS, and a/c signal that you may or may not need. There are other wires that you won't need (like VATS). Just figure out what is there and decide if it is necessary or not.

Thanks for the advice. Called up speartech and they said they don't handle the harness for the corvette, they could make a standalone harness but it isn't much cheaper than any of the other companies making it. I think I can sort out the harness from the corvette and add the appropriate relays. I found something on Ebay from an seller named EZ2wire that looks like it will manage the relay functions and look like a clean factory install in the process. It costs about $100 which is way more economical than buying a whole standalone harness ($550-$750). Just wanted to get all my ducks in a row before diving in and dropping the engine in. Thanks again for the responses.

Post a link to that Ebay auction. I ran across a few deadbeat harness makers and and sellers, and I want to make sure you don't get trapped by one of these guys.

Just spoke with Jim at Jim's performance, super nice guy. He's gonna rework the OEM harness for $250.00 and tail out all the other wires I need custom. Awesome deal, doesn't get much better than that.

Thanks a mil, Art and everyone else who chimed in. I'll post a before and after pic of what the harness looks like in case anyone is interested.

I found a similar deal...I'm getting the factory harness worked over. He's cutting out what I don;t need, adding what I do, and programming the chip to match my car. Total for all that, which is a custom program, $425.

Item URL: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...DME:L:RTQ:US:1

Above is the link to the specific auction. But I'm just going to go with Jim's performance for the extra $100 and get a finished product. The ebay auction seems legit though.

Yeah, going through Jim's is a better option for the money and you get a much better product.
