After Market Gauges
Actually factory senders work fine for water temp and fuel - I use a mechanical oil as opposed to OEM electric on my 78.
Why did you opt for the mechanical oil gauge? You don't trust the electric one?
I originally thought I would go with the Nordskog unit and bought it, but vchanged my mind. Nordskog still in the box.. gathering dust..
IMHO.. this is the way to go. You will need to get a hole saw and round out the holes. I used a carbon fiber ovwrlay. they work great... (I have since switched to a Keisler 5 speed as well)

The prices have gone up a bit (about $100) since I got mine. All in all I think I spent about 3000 on the ENTIRE system. Remember you need to get new fuel pump (hi pressure) as well as electronics, injectors, etc... I went with a FAST controller with wide band O2, which added to the cost (Bought seperate from FIRST) Originally had the stock ECU from Chevy... with a mod chip. FAST ECU eliminates chips.
As far as the overlay, I actually found it on Ebay for about $25. Got a large sheet of it. Wasy to work with as well.

Keep in mind when you get the intake, you are also getting the throttle body, plenum and runners. Throttle body is about as big as a C5's, not a C4's When you start pricing it al out, it is not that bad of a deal as compared to cobbling together a bunch of junkyard parts from wrecked C4's or Camaro's. Plus I liked the clean look.. In addition I also had to install a Serpentine system so that the throttle body and air intakes could clear the pulleys. Brackets for this I did get at a junkyard, and then I got new aluminum pulleys. The twin air intake is an aftermarket unit designed for a C5 Fits perfect on the throttle body and kept me from going over the rad support. With the twin electric fans, it stays pretty cool under the hood.
I originally went with an EGR, but now that I really don't need it, Ken supplied me with a powdercoated block off plate. Also supplied me with new throttle bracket after I dumped the automatic and went with the 5 speed.

The way I figure it, the '77-'82 center gauge console was made to look like fake aircraft gauges--so real ones might be an acceptable look.

Will the auto parts store guages fit into the space allowed when I pull the current amp gauge?
....next on the list, ejection pass seat and sidewindersYou could just put both senders in the same tank, and use one as the redundant. Plus it'd be cool to see the effects the sloshing has on the reading.

and pass out on the couch. What do you guys think of these...http://www.autometer.com/cat_gaugede...gid=2510&sid=3
All black interior with these carbon fiber guages would look nice.
Only think I don't like is on the smaller center consul gauges the guage numbers can blend in with the carbon fiber weaves. But I'm leaning towards these. Maybe a red or blue LED backlighting. Anyone have pics of these gauges installed?????
How much of a pain are the autometer gauge hookups and senders? I know it takes some modifying to get them to sit nicely in the consols but how are the actual hookups and accuracy??
I'm curious about this too. I have a box of Autometer white faced gauges that I had originally planned on using in a Scout II project as while back. I sold the Scout, and kept a lot of the parts I had bought for it. Anyway, I have both a speedo and a tach, and the other four standard used gauges. I only hesitate because I don't know how or what it would take to mount them correctly since they don't have any specific mounting hardware. I'd have to buy a gauge for that fifth place too.

I really like the look of the digitals... VERY NICE...
Thanks!
I'm not a good person to ask about that. I don't care for carbon fiber and I have a soft spot for white gauges.
I like the stock gauges, and I'm tempted to send mine off and have them painted white.
don't fret. It's always a good idea to replace a sender after three decades. Freshens everything up...chance for a new ground, and new wiring. Check all the hoses and such, and clean the tank out. It's a full job...but it's better that way.
