Why did you opt for the mechanical oil gauge? You don't trust the electric one?

Here are some pics of when I redid mine a couple of years ago. I also replaced the speedo and tach. kept all blinkers in the center along with brake and hi beam lights. You will need to wire the rear. I used quick connects and labelled all. Easier to work on a bench with this.

I originally thought I would go with the Nordskog unit and bought it, but vchanged my mind. Nordskog still in the box.. gathering dust..

IMHO.. this is the way to go. You will need to get a hole saw and round out the holes. I used a carbon fiber ovwrlay. they work great... (I have since switched to a Keisler 5 speed as well)

Looks great. I'm doing my gauges now. Hope to finish this weekend. Where did you get the carbon fiber overlay.

Here is a link to the First Injections web site: Talk to Ken, the owner there.

http://www.firstinjections.com/products.htm

The prices have gone up a bit (about $100) since I got mine. All in all I think I spent about 3000 on the ENTIRE system. Remember you need to get new fuel pump (hi pressure) as well as electronics, injectors, etc... I went with a FAST controller with wide band O2, which added to the cost (Bought seperate from FIRST) Originally had the stock ECU from Chevy... with a mod chip. FAST ECU eliminates chips.

As far as the overlay, I actually found it on Ebay for about $25. Got a large sheet of it. Wasy to work with as well.

Keep in mind when you get the intake, you are also getting the throttle body, plenum and runners. Throttle body is about as big as a C5's, not a C4's When you start pricing it al out, it is not that bad of a deal as compared to cobbling together a bunch of junkyard parts from wrecked C4's or Camaro's. Plus I liked the clean look.. In addition I also had to install a Serpentine system so that the throttle body and air intakes could clear the pulleys. Brackets for this I did get at a junkyard, and then I got new aluminum pulleys. The twin air intake is an aftermarket unit designed for a C5 Fits perfect on the throttle body and kept me from going over the rad support. With the twin electric fans, it stays pretty cool under the hood.

I originally went with an EGR, but now that I really don't need it, Ken supplied me with a powdercoated block off plate. Also supplied me with new throttle bracket after I dumped the automatic and went with the 5 speed.

if anyone's interested here's a site that has all five of the gauges needed made by autometer, the total cost is pretty good and they offer 20 bucks off for spending a certain amount... http://racerwheel.com/accessories-ga...al-gauges.html

Default amp gauge

The volt meter auto parts store guages ($20.00) measure inside the lip (glass) at 2". My 1971 measures 2 1/16" on the glass.
Will the auto parts store guages fit into the space allowed when I pull the current amp gauge?

You could just put both senders in the same tank, and use one as the redundant. Plus it'd be cool to see the effects the sloshing has on the reading.

Haha, forget reading when I'm sloshed...i watch Rocky movies and pass out on the couch.

What do you guys think of these...http://www.autometer.com/cat_gaugede...gid=2510&sid=3
All black interior with these carbon fiber guages would look nice.
Only think I don't like is on the smaller center consul gauges the guage numbers can blend in with the carbon fiber weaves. But I'm leaning towards these. Maybe a red or blue LED backlighting. Anyone have pics of these gauges installed?????

How much of a pain are the autometer gauge hookups and senders? I know it takes some modifying to get them to sit nicely in the consols but how are the actual hookups and accuracy??

I'm curious about this too. I have a box of Autometer white faced gauges that I had originally planned on using in a Scout II project as while back. I sold the Scout, and kept a lot of the parts I had bought for it. Anyway, I have both a speedo and a tach, and the other four standard used gauges. I only hesitate because I don't know how or what it would take to mount them correctly since they don't have any specific mounting hardware. I'd have to buy a gauge for that fifth place too.

There were a few threads a while back and maybe a writeup too on mounting (yes I said "mounting") the gauages in the vette speedo/tach consols and the center cluster. If I remember correctly some had to shave the gauge holes to make way for the larger gauges and then they created a "spacer adapter" to mount the speedo/tach gauges. Some have bought an angled spacer for the center cluster to angle the gauges towards the driver. I like the angled look on the center cluster. I'll do a search on here once I get ready to install these guages. Right now I have the entire dash out of the car so I'm trying to pick out some gauges. Either autometer carbon fibers or the silver ultralights, both with a blue or red LED backlighting. Whats you opinion on these two gauges? black interior, which would you choose?

I really like the look of the digitals... VERY NICE... I am considering a set for my 78...Was installation fairly straight forward?

Thanks!

I'm not a good person to ask about that. I don't care for carbon fiber and I have a soft spot for white gauges.

I like the stock gauges, and I'm tempted to send mine off and have them painted white.

Can an aftermarket fuel gauge like Sunpro be used with the stock sending unit. When I got my gauges the shop didn't have the sender but I got the gauge anyway, as it was the last one on the shelf. I'd really hate to have to open the gas tank again to replace the stock sender. As for the rest of the gauges, thankfully I have the wiring diagram.

Well I just answered my own question. No I can't. The Sunpro unit is rated for 240-33.5 ohms empty/full and the stocker is 0-90. Looks like I need a new unit. Sorry for wasting a post but I hope I helped someone else out there with the same dilema.

don't fret. It's always a good idea to replace a sender after three decades. Freshens everything up...chance for a new ground, and new wiring. Check all the hoses and such, and clean the tank out. It's a full job...but it's better that way.
