new everything.... ss calipers, master, lines.roters and dot5 fluid... i drove up in the mountins and back 3 or 4 times in the last couple of weeks... 5k foot elevation change. coming down i lost the hardness in the brake and some of the stop! saw or read something about dot 5 and elevation change,.. had to do with the loss brakes... any thoughts on this?
sometimes there are very tiny air bubbles in dot5 that you need to remove by boiling the fluid before putting it in. The bubbles can appear later and cause some white knuckle braking. Rebleed the brakes and you should be ok. For grins and to make sure everything is good, verify the runout on the rotors, it should be under .002". Excessive runout will cause the rotors to suck air into the caliper but not necessarily leak brake juice on your tires.
I've had the reverse happen: upon coming up from sea level to 5000 feet, the rear brake on my bike siezed up. Removed the master cylinder cap and burped and bled it and all was OK. It's entrained air in the fluid, I guess we could call it the bends for brakes systems. Bleed 'em out and you should be OK for good, as the teeny bubbles have now come together to make bigger bubbles which can be bled out.
