JDP6000 is giving you good advice. And I'll double the comment on not many mechanics know the ins and outs of the crossfire. Sounds like you just have some bugs to chase down.

If the motor has just been rebuilt and they don’t seem to be proudly standing behind there work, I would be cautious. I think you should go through and check every thing is in order. JDP6000 is right, you have to get that timing right to start with, And it has to be set with the distributor bypass wire disconnected. Note that some early 82s did not have a connector in the middle of the wire.

You said that some of the vac lines looked cracked. VERY VERY bad. The Crossfire is particularly sensitive to vacuum leaks. One, you need make sure all the vac lines are connected to the right places on the TBs and intake. You should also check each vac device for leaks. You can do this with a hand vac pump, a gauge, and some T's and lines. You may want to disconnect and cap all the non essential lines just to check if it makes a difference at first, then fix the leaky systems.

Common Crossfire Vacuum leak sources:
* Intake top to bottom gasket
* Throttle Body to Intake gasket
* Throttle shafts worn into the TB housing
* MAP sensor (this is very critical, but not a common leak source)
* Headlight actuators
* Power Brakes
* Evap canister system
* Evap solenoid
* Heater-A/C controls
* AIR diverter valves
* EGR valve

Also, you've put money into new IACs and TPS, did you check to make sure the throttle shafts are tight and not leaking? At the TB, open the throttle wide open. Then try to move the throttle shaft in a front-rear direction. If there is play in the shaft, you may want to get bushing put in. Since you've done just about every thing else to the TBs.

One last item, I suggest you take JDP6000's advice and check out the crossfire vault, they have a lot of good info and knowledge.

I know this was long winded, but I hope it helps.

I was looking at the distributor and noticed there is one wire which is disconnected. I didnt see another connector so maybe it should be disconnected. Here are a couple pics::

IACs are so called stepper motors, they are not just linear motors, they are wired so that they have "positions" they are adjusted by the ECM.

that's the tach connector, should be connected to the tach filter... a little cylindrical thing mounted on your intake manifold lid behind the drivers side TB (w/ a little bracket), if the tach filter missing the connector is further up the wiring harness, you can connect it directly to the harness without having the tach filter, the needle may bounce a tad but it will still work.

Here's the tach filter, partially visible. It's the little cyl. w/ the white wire in the lower right corner: (....for those w/ a good eye...ignor the teflon tape on the flare nut, some doofus did that to seal it..useless since it's a flare seal and the threads don't seal anything)

Twin,

He is pointing at the brown plug not the wire. That plug is suppose to be there unattached. Its for shop use....diagnostic hook up. I also have it.

Does anyone know or have any good write-ups on timing this engine. I have a Haynes manual somewhere and i have to find it but are there any good articles online. The car has been running much better I just want to make sure its properly timed.
