Wiped a cam in my new 454 last summer. just got done putting in the new cam. I'm using one of the Autozone priming tools and 1/2 drill. I cant get oil flow up the push rods.
I have the oil heated so it is thinnned out
I have rotated the engine in 90 degree increments
I've run the drill for several minutes with no luck
I had good oil pressure (60 psi) when the last cam wiped so the new pump was workin fine.
Nothing changed but the cam
I had the wife watch the oil pressure guage with the key on. We're showing 45 psi with drill turning so I know pump is working. Oil is still not flowing to the top end.
I've run the drill for a solid two minutes...does it trake more?

It should have the big washer on top and a piece in the center. This will allow theoil to get up top. Without it you will not get much pressure. I have run my 1/2 drill for a good 5 minutes to get it to all the rockers. Give it time. Let it run.
From: Who says "Nothing is impossible" ? I've been doing nothing for years.
Yea you need a good priming tool, the one I have is just a shaft extension to turn the pump, pretty much useless because you need one that fits the same size as the distributor to allow oil to flow to the passenger galley
I use a plain old chevy distributor that I cut the top off and removed the cam gear. It fit in the block fine and I turned the shaft down to use a 3/8 drill with it. I also use a mechanical gauge in the block so I can have it in front of me when priming.
Good luck
i welded a bolt to a distributor shaft and used my air ratchet. after about 30 seconds oil was venting out the oil pressure guage tube. i let it run for about 5 minutes and noticed that when i removed the ratchet, the back pressure in the pump would rotate the shaft counter clock wise about a full turn. felt good about that.
