Default Rear end problem

I have a problem on my 72 with the rear end. I had a bent spindle and two bent yokes both sides that bolt to the spindles. (i got the car this way) Ended up replacing the complete trailing arm assembly, new yokes and u joints on the side shafts and the rotors. After I bled the brakes, I ran the car with the wheels off to check the work while on jack stands. The whole suspension is now moving side to side especially noticeable on the left side. I dont see anything, but could it be a bent side shaft or a problem with the differential. It sounds as if the car has a knocking sound because of it. Anyone had a problem like this before? Appreciate any help on this one

Hope you didn't run it with the wheels hanging down, very bad idea, it puta a very high load on the u-joints. you need to put jack stands under the TA's so the suspension is compressed and then run it, see if anything got bent

Like mentioned above, you need to jack up the t-arms and than run it. Be very careful when doing this.

See if the play is coming from the half shafts yokes, having in/out play where it goes into the side of the differental.

I noticed that my wheel would move like you describe when I was taking the tire off one time, I inspected and saw the play coming from the diff side yoke having play in the diff.

If this is what it is... it's a PITA because, it likely means your missing/woreout the snap ring that holds the half shaft in the diff or because the end of the yoke is worn down... you will have to take the diff down, open it, clean everything out, inspect for other damage/wear/etc, and install new snap rings and/or side yokes.
