I'm looking to late fall, winter, and early spring, and I'm creating of list of jobs I want to do on the Vette. Here's my list. What are the rest of you doing?
1. Detail the rest of the frame.
2. Pull the motor and check the clearances, clean it up (I'm working on a new motor, this is a half step and dry run before the new one goes in).
3. Fix the clock.
4. New master cylinder.
5. New power steering pump.
6. Fix the cruise control (new transducer).
7. Eliminate the noise in the stereo.
8. Complete a general detail of the engine compartment.
For now, that's all I have. If time and inclination permit, I may yank the pumpkin and have it rebuilt. But I'm not sure about this one.
So let me have it. I want to hear what everyone else is doing.
:yesnod:
I'm kinda with tunedport78 - it'll be a couple of months 'till we have anything that vaguely resembles "winter". I do have a few short term projects though:
buy and install new radiator
buy and install F41 front springs
find and figure out how to pay for new ('79-'82) seats
or
buy and figure out how to install new seat covers
and lastly taek the rear end for complete checkout
my winter project started early it was supposed to be paint but after i got the rear done and the exuast and rear suspension i went right into sanding and disassembly,so i guess my winter started early
I going to put that 700R4 in that's been sitting here. Then maybe I'll work on the EMI noise in my stero and then do a full poly suspension upgrade. :D :D
Well, our low for today is supposed to be 37 degrees, so I think winter is close. I am thinking that I can put in a pretty big cam if the lifters have rollers on em....hehe  . I should start a used cam store....I have a bunch of cams with only one summer on them. I actually got one that was TOO streetable last time....nobody looks over at the stoplights anymore because it doesn't lope :( .

Re: Winter projects, who's doing what? (A C)
1. Front suspension rebuild and detail.
2. Power steering installation.
3. Possibly pull the engine and go through it?
4. Fix the clock.
5. Put a radio in that gaping hole in the dash.
6. Whatever else seems like needs to be done at the time.
1. Pull motor. Rebuild. Maybe 383. Hydraulic roller maybe.
2. Get T-10 rebuilt (darn synchros) at same time. (Tremec swap on hold for $$$ reasons right now).
3. Detail engine compartment while out.
4. Get rear end checked to eliminate annoying clunk.
5. Eliminate annoying cold brake squeak.
6. Rear wheel bearing check, rebuild as necessary.
7. Smart struts/6-link maybe??
8. New stereo???
Steve, as far as your rear end clunk, have you checked the support bushings for the diff? I had a clunking problem on my 79 and it turned out that the lower bushing was almost completly gone. Take a look underneath and you will see a support that bolts to the diff and then to the frame in front of the diff. There should be a bushing there, about 2 inches round.
Anyway, here is my winter project, spend all of my money before I earn it, list:
1. Fairly easy - replace valve cover gaskets
2. Install headers and true dual exhaust
3. Install new suspension (front and rear), HD rear diff cover, new ball joints and tie rod ends.
I'll probably just replace the current bad ball joint this winter and then do the full replacement next winter. I seriously doubt I'll have the money to do it all this winter.
You mentioned the 6 link smart struts.
There was post about this 6 link mod, but I think nobody knew the dealer for this kit.
Do you have a dealer address ?
My winter projects are :
replacing the struts due to both are bent.
installing aftermaket seats
manufacture a stainless roll bar, possibly with double loops following the headrests of the new seats.
might install power brake booster.
front and back poly bushings , if time permits.
possible reinstallation of wiper door assembly , has aftermarked long hood installed presently.
and lots more , as time and money permits.
By the way, my car is a 68 big block convertible with beautifull hooker side exhaust. This turns heads also without a hi-lift cam as you can hear the solid lifters in between the beautifull rumbling big block noise.
I love it.

-Get it back from the paint booth(a project in itself)
-New weatherstripping
-new door pannels
-complete interior restoration
-clean up engine compartment
-new rear spring
rubber suspencion componants(I thought about going poly, but I heard horror stories about poly, so in 20 years I will just replace the rubber again, no biggie  )
-cruise with the t-tops on and the windows down(our winters are not THAT cold, maybe high mid 40's).
-install 268H cam, new lifters, springs
-install Comp headers from Hooker
Thats it for now...I will be broke after the first 4 on my list, but hopefully I will be able to do all of my list.
I wish I could make a list.
My plans change wayyyy too often.
But this winter I plan on restoring my `66 mustang.
Spring I plan to rebuild my vettes 350.
and ???
#1. Send my stock Q-Jet to Lars for a rebuild... #2. Install Lars advance kit that I,ve had all summer  #3. New shocks :yesnod: #4. Maybe a set of headers and maybe a set of roller rockers :flag :seeya
