I was working on the car('69 350) this weekend. A wire was loose from the fan relay and it shorted out. Blew several fuses, all of which I replaced. Now the starter wont engage. I turn the key and nothing.
I am suspecting the selonoid. I crossed the poles at the selonoid and got a spark so this tells me there is not another (hidden) fuse somewhere.. The Haynes manual does not show a fuseable link in the system. Any suggestions as to what it may be? Would it be that easy to blow a selonoid?
I'd bet a fusible link going to the starter. Even if it isn't shown on the diagram, I'd bet it's there. If I remember, there are 2 wires plus the battery cable going to the big solenoind terminal, and both are fuse links.
Here's the wiring diagram for my 71' (should be the same as your 69'). There is a fusible link that goes to the coil and the 'R' terminal on the solenoid from the fuse block. But I think the wire on the 'S' terminal pulls in the solenoid itself. Check for voltage at the 'S' terminal when the ignition is turned to the start position. If you have 12volts, then the solenoid must be kaput.
Thanks Guys.
Duke94, great wiring schematic. The only 'visible' fuse link I can see is going to the horn relay which I replaced. If there is one where your schem shows, I can't find it and well, it would be just cruel and unusual punishment if it is hidden somewhere; dang it. I'll keep looking because I replaced the solenoid(they are cheap) and that didn't fix it so there has to be a hidden fuse somewhere. I'll start tracing the wires tonight with my tester and see what I can find. Everything is so dang tight! My son learned a few new cuss words.
As I recall on my 71', the fuse link was wrapped up in the harness going to the solenoid. You may have to disconnect the wire at both ends and do a continuity check. Also, maybe the ignition switch got fried from to much current.
GPD in Dukes drawing coming off the large solenoid lug is a 12 red that turns into a 14 brown and then into a 10 red. The 14 brown is the fusible link.Check the 10 reds at the horn relay ,they should be hot if not the 14 brown fusible link is blown.
I just realized none of my courtesy lights are working. I've checked both sides of all fuses and I have a solid 12v's . It's driving me crazy. Well, at least I know what I'll be doing this Thanksgiving weekend.
Hey Duke my diagram is a little rough. If you follow from the solenoid the 12 red to the 14 brown(link)to the 10red then it 'T's off to a 20 orange then to a 14 black--does that 14 black go to the ammeter? If so I bet that 20 orange is another Fusible link.

Looks like 14B connects to all the other grounds in the console cluster. 20 Orange looks like it goes to the L.H court. light.
I think thats a different wire.Look in your first diagram in post 3 and look in the upper right hand corner-see the 20 orange that turns into a 14 black? I think that 20 orange is a fusible link and its probably as you said before wound up down at the starter with the other fusible link.
You guys are great. Thanks. I have my son pulling the dash apart and when I get home, I'm going in head first. I have had a few other minor electrical issues so I might as well take care of it all. I'll let you know what I found on the Starter thing.

I have an old engine harness, and the first fuseable link (brown wire) is in the MAIN red wire to the solenoid about 12" from the starter as was identified earlier. Then, as you said, the main RED wire has another splice about 3' from the starter end and has an orange fusiable link which connects to a black wire that goes to the bulkhead connector. I think you nailed it.
