My 82 has a funny bumping under slight load around 1700-2000 RPM at around 25 to 30 MPH. What would cause this? The car shakes a littel and acts like it is have a hard time delivering the appropriate power to the rear wheels. The engine seems like it wants to stall but doesn't. If I give the car more gas and get the RPMs up it settles down quite a bit. I am stumped.

I could be wrong but I read somewhere that the EGR kicks in around that range and is know to cause those problems. The way ours works is through vaccum...activates the egr solenoid that activates the EGR.
If it is...Easy check.
Engine running push up on underside of EGR. No change? Clear passages or replace valve.
RPM drops? Have someone increase RPM to 1200 and let it return to idle. If you can feel movement on the underside of the EGR system is fine. No Movement? Unplug the hose from the EGR...run to 1000 rpm...if you have over 3 inches of vaccum EGR valve is bad...if you have under 3 inches of vaccum its either the EGR solenoid or the connection to the front TBI. You need plus 3 inches of vaccum to move it.
It's your convertor locking up. I got a plug in pigtail that plugs into the transmission and the existing wiring plugs into the new pigtail and this will only allow lock-up when you are in Drive. Around town you can keep it in 3rd and it will not lock-up. When on the highway put in D and it will lock-up in overdrive for better milage. Works great. I can't rememmber where I got it but it was one of the major suppliers, Ecklers, Mid-America, ? not sure where, you need to hunt around.
