Bleeding my brakes today, so I pulled the wheels. Bubba had glued on one lug nut & crossthreaded another one. I pulled the rotor to have a look, gee the parking brake assembly is gone too. Anyway it looks like bubba replaced the lugs previously w/o removing the spindle & just beat the new ones in. The lugs look very cheap & are oxidizing instead of being a little rusty, like the originals. The spindles are pretty banged up.
Questions
1. Are these spindles OK to reuse, or do I need new ones?
2. How hard is it to get the spindle off?
3. Any ideas on the parking brake?
Replace the spindle and backing plate. Easier to do the parking brake hardware with the spindle out. Don't let gtr1999 see that spindle...
HA! I just got in a "brand new in the box" spindle today and it had rolled threads on it!
Looking at that one I would go through and do it once. It is involved to do and forget about reusing those bearings once you get them out. They are pressed on the spindle and require a great deal of force to separate them.
Good points. I was looking at Van Steel & they have a good deal on rebuilt trailing arms kits that include everything plus the emergency brake. I'll probably go that route & just replace both side & forget about bubba. Now if they only had a sale coupon........
