Cigarette Lighter Housing Light?

Cigarette Lighter Housing Light?
Should there be a light down in the Lighter Housing? Just replacede mine cigarret lighter, and there was this grey loose wire....
I can se a simmaly grey wire to a bulb for the shift plate...

my 73 has lights in both the cigarette lighter socket and shift plate(auto). they are on seperate circuits though, the cigarette lighter light is only on with the ignition on, the shift plate light on with the rest ofthe dash lights. unless you're like my bubba, then the shift plate light is tied into the headlight warning lamp wire, no idea how that happened. i haven't been in the console in a little while, so forgive me if i'm confused at all.
