It needs to be painted and it is a little rusty right now. I'd say it took of atleast 20 pounds. I also have the stock license plated mount and side mounts still.

i had something like this but made thinner and in alluminium and really very very light, a custom work of art done by a guy who is pretty good on these things, very expensive though...unfortunately i destroyed it (together with the whole front end) when i crashed with a bus last year....

i had to put back the stock dinasaurus and heavy like hell steel item, today simply i havent got the money to re-do it!!!

yellow, could you post more detailed pics of your build? is it holding the whole front end streight in place? try alu, same design will be perfect

It is a very simple design with nothing fancy.

Hehe I remember welding steel back in 8th grade... Dunno if I could do it now, though. Probably take me a couple tries and I'd get it, though.

Steel is really easy, IIRC, just wait till it melts together and you're good.

You would have been much better off just drilling the original member. That is not any prettier and I don't think it weighs that much less. The stock tube is 39 pounds and I go mine down to 19 pounds and it still retains all the mounting hardware. My rad is supported by this tube as it the whole front end.
If you fabricated it why not just paint it at this time before going to the trouble of installing it???
Everything in my front end is drilled. Sorry for the mess on the front end but I was just priming and painting a new bumper and some dust got on the powdercoated supports and tube. It did clean off ok
