From other topics, seems as if most are getting more mpg than I am - 17+ or so. Some say in the 20's. We'll see if things change with the new rear end, albeit a 355 vs a 273.
One more day or so and I should have it. They had the differential back in the car this afternoon and were re-assembling everything. Then the road test, etc. Can't get there Friday in time so it will be Saturday morning.
BTW, they ran the carrier and cross member, etc. through parts cleaner. You can't imagine how dirty a leaking (through pinion seal) differential can get in 150K miles (I just kept filling it up about every 3 months). Did not know parts looked silver!
Wonder what the change in performance will be. Using a Gtech, my 82 was at 7.1 0-60 (some mods, an LM1 crate). Maybe mid 6's?
I'd just run it normally in the city giving it plenty of cool down time for the first 500 miles and then refill with new gear oil. If the posi was also changed or rebuilt, they recommend doing some figure 8s in the parking lot to seat the clutches.
The 3.55s should rock with the 700R4.
Drive moderately for 30 minutes, then cool down 30 minutes. Do this 3 times. It seats the gears, and helps to finish the case hardening. Change oil at 500 miles, don't forget the posi additive.
By the way, I had changed from 2.73 to 3.08. Worked fine when had the TH-350C. Now that I dropped in a 700-R4, it has to go. 3.55 or even 3.73 after the holidays!!!!!!!!
