Default question about back space...

iussue: i want bigger wheels...but i want to avoid flares.

facts: i have 8 x 15 minilites front and rear, 4'' back space all round, tires 255/60/15 front (it's well within and dont touch anywhere) and 275/60/15 rear just slightly (i'd say half inch) over the edge and dont touch anywhere either.

i have offset vansteel TA.

question: what wheel back space front and rear i will need to be withing the stock edge if i get 9 x 15 (with 265/50/15 tires) front and 10 x 15 rear (with 295/50/15 tires) ?

my thoughts: front 4.5'' and rear 5''.

what's your opinions ?

I have Centerline 15X10's with 5 inch back-spacing, and running 295's. I think they might stick out just a little. (I have flared wellls,so I can't prove anything)...

thanks, do you have same size wheels and backspace allround? 5'' backspace should put the tire more in, isnt it?

Panic...

I dont have stock fenders...

Be careful of the section width of wider tires and more then 4" of back space...

You;ll need to move the Ebrake bracket to the top and prolly use a shorter rear spring.

Seeing how you use your car and keep in mind with 15" rubber you get a lot of sidewall deflection in hard cornering.

15x11x4 and 325/50VR15 with STOCK trailing arms. I had to move the Ebrake bracket and shorten the spring to get it to fit safely...

15x10x3 with 1.75 spacers and stock spring/Ebrake with 295/50TR15...

more positive back space means you pull the rim inside isnt it?

i've got a shorter spring now and offset TA's.

Seeing how you use your car and keep in mind with 15" rubber you get a lot of sidewall deflection in hard cornering.

i'll get goodyear eagles and have already hoosiers dot sport tires, not yet fix though

what kind of tires are you using??

15x10x3 with 1.75 spacers and stock spring/Ebrake with 295/50TR15...

3'' backspace won't pull the rim out compared with 4 or 5''?

---
i think i wont be able to avoid at least 2'' flares, i'll use 4'' back space without spacers and 10x15 wheels rear with 295/50, think will do safely.

front same back space with 9x15 and 265/50 or similar...

I'm sorry you are correct the 15x10 rims were 5" backspace not 3" (These were my old setup) (I run 15x8x3 on the front in either case)

Nitto 555R 325/50VR15 (28" tall) in the rear and 275/50VR15 (26" tall) in the front. Sticky !!

Default Same question

Im looking at getting 18 or 19 x 10's on my 82. And my stock 15 x 8's have 255 60 15 tires on them and the side wall sticks out an inch on both sides. I have offset trailing arms and a vbp suspension. Can i go with a 5' back space front and back??

From what I have read you should be able to go with and 18x10 on the rear with 275\40\18's. Backspacing is 5 or 5.5. I should be able to run this with stock TA's and relocating my E brake. For the fronts I am planning 255\50\17's with 4" BS.

Hope this helps.

Big G., does that 5" backspace work with a stock trailing arm?

That I don't know.....Mine are off-set. I do know I can't run a rear sway bar.

with offsets trailing arms say goodbye to the sway bar, but if you have a VBP suspension just tighten the spring rate by one notch and you should compensate for it
