I'm thinking about replacing my old 82 Crossfire with a new crate engine. The zz383 has the specs I'm interested in. Has anybody dealt with or know the reputation of this company? They offer turnkey packages, like this one, http://www.enginefactory.com/stroker.htm
Any thoughts or input welcome!!

I just took delivery of a '82 obviously w/ crossfire also, for about the same money you can do a ls1 swap. Ask around to the guys who have done it, because from what I hear they would never go back...

I got a 375 HP small block from enginefactory.com. They had a special - got the 375 HP for the price of a 350 HP. It arrived the last week of October anbd I got it installed a couple weeks ago. I went with the turn-key engine. I've built an engine before, but it was 15 years ago with my dad. For me, paying someone else to do it was more in my confort level. It is a turn-key engine, but you still need to do some work. For example, The fuel pump they put on did not have a provision for the fuel return line, so I got another one that did. They had they fuels line from the carb to the fuel pump installed, but it was rubber. I bent up a solid line and routed it away from the headers. Would I buy it again? Absolutely. It runs great and I'm satisfied. Here are a few pics I took when it arrived.

I am thinking of going the same route. Are you satisfied with the power to the wheels? I have a 308 rearend what do you have.

Any suggestions?

I got my 383 long block from them. Topped it with a fuel injection system from Accel. I've run a 12.7 on some really cheap street tires. Tons of torque......blows the tires off on demand.

I like the power. I also have 3.08 gears and an M20 trans. It won't snap your neck off the line, but pulls like crazy once you're going. I might go with 3.70 gears when I do a rebuild this spring. I don't do a lot of highway driving, and a little more go at the lights would be nice

Had a bad experience with a engine that ran poorly, after some mailing they did offer to take it back in and check it for faults, but as i live in Denmark the shipping cost alone to get it here was 1000$
so i decided it would be cheaper to just open it up and repair it myself.

It turned out to be a bad set of timing gears, the timing was fluxuating like 15deg and when i changed them i could see that the gears and the chain had never matched, actually looked like a new chain and worn gears had been used, could be that the misalignment just wore the gears at an extremely accelerated rate ie. deep wear marks after 100 miles.

It was probably a honest mistake, and they did indeed offer to take the engine back in for a look, they also responded to all my mails regarding the matter allthough it seemed to me they diint read them properbly i am a mehanic and have build lots of engines myself (primarely european 4 cylinders) so i know what i am talking about still the answers was for me to test out a multitude of things that had defiantly nothing to do with the fault.

before i've bought my 406ci from 'american speed' i've been looking around other engine builders, among others, also engine factory...they seemed good but buying from EU only the best will do and you can't take any chances (mainly for peace of mind...and for the expensive eventual returns, like happened to our friend fm danmark), that's why i went the other way...price was quite high but for a low compression race powerplant it was acceptable, also, i never had a problem, never to adjust anything, everything was tuned in and properly runned in and dinoed...
engines are like women, the cheaper choice could be the more expensive in the long run

i just put a deposit on the 460/383 from engine factory. it seemed like a nice engine, roller cam and rockers. its getting delivered in jan. i hope its a good engine because it was alot of money.

Is your ingine a 350 or 383 stroker. If you change rearend to 3.70 @ 70 mph you should be turning 3,200 rpms. This is doable especially with the benefits at the lights

I bought a 430hp small block from The Engine Factory about a year ago and have now got a bit over 3000 miles on it. Apart from re-setting the timing and changing jets and needles in the carb nothing else needed doing and its going like a train. Even saw off a C5 that tried to outdrag me!! I'm delighted with it.

It's a 350. I can live with those RPM's @ 70mph. I usually have it under 60 mph since it's almost exclusively driven locally.

For any of u guys on the east coast there is another shop also in New Jersey called Proformance Unlimited-[Proformanceunlimited.com]-....There awsome and they also will install the engine unlike the Engine Factory...........Jerrylee///

Sorry been away so only getting to this now.

The ignition was set about 12deg static and it was running very rich. On the rolling road it showed 350 flywheel HP. So retiming the ignition as per Lars (14deg static & 36WOT) and rejetting the carb (well jets /needles/springs, vacuum on idle etc.) to give an AFR of about 12.5 make a huge difference. I cant be exact since I havent got round to dynoing it again, but it is significant.

only 350 horse wow thought since you got the 430 horse it would have 430 horse. maybe mine will be different since im getting the stroker.

Yeah but like I say it was running way too rich and the timing was out, getting much more than that now, I am having it dyno'd again in the New Year and fully expect it to be up in the 400's.
