Default Stop The Presses

I just received an email from B.F Goodrich customer relations. They no longer make the 245/60/15 raised white letter tire. Have you seen the Goodyear raised whites? now numerial II at the end. Thats just too much writing on the tire. So now I guess its off to Dunlop GT Qualifier...like that ani't a mouthful. Next we will be forced into blackwall only.

Why not use the 255/60/15's all around? They were OEM in the late 70's and early 80's. Just put a set of BFG's in this size on my 74. Very minimal and occasional rubbing that I can live with, plus they look and perform great.

It's wierd what Tire Rack can come up with. I just purchased some Traction T/A's in a 185/70R-14 for my old Legacy from them when no one else had 'em or listed them. Also, I run BFG 245/60R-14 T/A's on the rear end of my Monza and that's the only place that has them. Great prices and they UPS 'em right to my shop.

I don't know how you feel about Cooper Tires, but they make a Cooper Cobra G/T tire that comes in all of our sizes. Somebody on Ebay sells a set of (4) 225/70/15 for $276.00 shipped to your address.

Good luck,
Dino

Default bf goodrich tires

It's too bad BGF chooses not to remember who put them where they are today as a tire company. Corvettes and grassroots roadracing .There website even shows the BFG greenwood corvette at lamans.([urlwww.bfgoodrichtires.com) on the backstretch page. The least they could do is make a H or V rated tire for corvettes and the other muslecars that put them on the map. Hell they make tires for all the rice cars ,they don't know what serious speed is.

The grim truth is that all the tire manufacturers are cutting the 15" tires as much as they can get by with. Only very basic sizes will remain.

The growing conversion and popularity to 16", 17" and beyond sizes have blindsided us. I didn't realize it till I started looking. This also happened to the 16.5 truck tires of late.

Dang, is that ever true. Thought I'd buy some Khumo DOT race tires for my spare 15x8 BOSS rims and got a surprise! They have a OK selection, but it's definitely slanted toward the larger (more profitable) rim sizes. Time to look at larger, lighter rims...

Default tires

I have a set of TA's but their road holding etc was crap especially in the wet so the only other tire I could find in Australia was a Yokohama 352, this has raised letters. Didn't do very well at the NCRS meet but they hang on well and seem to wear well too. It seems that in time to come 15" tires will be hard to find.

I recently switched from the T/A's which were not a great handling tire in the 15's to the BFG G Force Sport at 255 50 VR16 with the TTII wheels, I know the 16" tires are very limited but these tires are GREAT! I didn't want the big wheel look 17" or 18" although there is a larger selection but the 16" just IMO look more in balance with my 73.....

Default Dumb Words

This my friends is why I wanted BFG T/A Radials (raised white letters 245/60/15), pay attention class. That is what was written on the tire, plain, simple. Now we have examples such as Firehawk. Could someone tell me what the heck is a Firehawk? who came up with that word for a tire? it's dumb. Again Goodyear with the Roman numeral II at the end of the tires name. How about Dunlop Qualifier.....Qualifier? What is it qualified to do? It is quite apparent that car guys are not the ones in charge of naming the tires. Now someone, I forget who, has the word Nascar on the tire. It just keeps getting better. If I wanted a tire with a dumb name I will pick the name, I can be as dumb as the next guy. Am I going to blackwalls? Stay tuned.

Great tires, I have them on my car and the best part is they still make them in 255/60-15. They are still available in raised white letters also for that classic muscle car look, definiately a sharp looking tire that performs as good as they look.

Default For those who care about my 70' tire hunt

That I would finish up my tire saga for anyone that cares about my boring life in the search for the (what I think) perfect tire size. Since my recent rants about the lack of T/A Radials by BFG I have been on the hunt for tires. After alot of nice feedback from this site I went for Dunlop GT Qualifiers, 245/60/15 raised white letter of course. Perfect fit within the wheel well and a darn nice tire. Well done Dunlop or who ever owns them. I do have more gossip about BFG and the 245/60/15 TA tire. Now they may start making them early next year........or not. This info comes from the factory. Thanks for your help.

I had taken your advice and ordered BFG 245/60/15 tires to replace the junk that was on my car. I experienced the same issue of availability but got them. I just hope if I ruin a tire I can find a single for replacement in the future.

I have seen the Firehawks, Goodyears, Coopers and of course the BFG's. They are all ok but these Yokahamas I have seen lately are an insult to all owners

Cooper supposedly makes the PepBoys house brand. I have them on several of my cars. I'm not happy with them. One of my truck tires blew out for no apparent reason (very thin sidewalls), my truck tires have poor traction, and the ones on my Mustangs, even though rated for 150, have poor traction. My daughter spun-out & wrecked one of the Stangs.... I hydroplaned and wrecked another one... and I think the tread design contributed. Over-all, I'm not impressed with the PepBoys/Cooper strategy.

I'm in the process of switching everything over to BFG... about to place orders. But if they're going to leave us high & dry, I'll pick another manufacturer. No sense in supporting someone who doesn't also support me when I need it. Eh?

I bought T/As for one of my cars a couple of years ago. I really like them until I found out Michelein had bought BF........I hate giving the French money for anything.

Unbelievable! IMHO, the BF Goodrich Radial T/A has become a classic, one of the best looking tires ever made. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.
