Thorley headers
Years ago when I worked at the Dyno Shop, they used to stock/sell Doug's Headers. I know that there was a company split, and they sell Doug's brand as well as Thorley and they are different companys.
I am looking to get rid of the Hedman smog headers and put a set of real good headers on the stroker. I used the Hedmans, only because they were smog legal on the car but I'm not concerned with that any more.
Why don't I hear anyone talk about Thorleys any more? Their claim to fame was the 3/8 -or wasit 5/16 inch thick flange up at the heads, and a race-proven reputation that lasted generations.
I'm looking to get the 350-c chrome headers. Feedback on 'em?
New hedman elite headers, 3/8" flanges, 14 ga tubing, ball collector flanges and coated for $265 at summit.
Thanks for the reply. My question wasn't about -other brands- of headers but rather, why folks don't seem to use or even mention Doug's headers or Thorley brand any more. I know there's LOTs of types and brands out there.

Who's using Doug's or Thorleys?
I do! I had them de-chromed and ceramic coated. Our engine makes great power for a mild 327 (about 300 hp and 300 ft-lb at the wheels).
I called Thorley about a year ago and talked to their tech line. I told them I was comparing their headers and Stans headers. The techy at Thorleys recommended I buy Stan's headers. He said for a tri y design they could not compete with them. I did and I am very happy with my decision...

Why use Tri-Y headers when full length headers are all over and easily available? And who is Stans Headers?
Tri Y produces more low and mid range power where most of us use the motor. How many of use really use the motor over 5 or 6k rpms where there is a benefit for long tubes? Stans is in Washington, been around forever. Even Thorley recommends their headers...
I agree with Jon(nHeather) above. The Tri Y design is great for the street and normal rpm driving range. I have installed Tri Y on two cars; very satisfied. In fact, they were Doug Thorley manufactured. Never had any experience with Stan's, but all I have heard about them and their product has been positive.

Wow I am amazed that I never heard of 'em! I have always used long tube headers - gawd since my first nice car (56 Bel Air). It would seem odd to change now!
