Default Differential Cover Question

Is it normal for rear end lube to pour out of one of the spring bolt holes when the bolts are removed? I'm changing my trailing arms, brakes, etc because of bubba. The rear end has been into, since the gasket is now some red sealant that got squished out when the cover was tightened, but it does not seem to leak. Any thoughts? If this thing is screwed up I rather do it now, while the rest of the rear end is disassembled.

Someone has over-tightened or installed a wrong spring bolt and it has punched thru the inside of the cover. The only repair is to replace the cover. Do you have a 2 1/4 or a 2 1/2 " spring?

Someone used to long of a bolt and punched a hole in the cover. Time to replace the cover and get the correct length bolts.

I run coilovers and leave my spring bolts out and it doesn't leak.

I had this problem on my 67, one of the 4 bolts that holds the spring to the housing was to long and cracked the hole which allowed gear lube to leak out. I chose to weld it up and use a shorter bolt. No problems for the last 20 years.
Good luck
