Default 1968 speaker location and advice

I am not certain of the lcation of the original speakers in a 1968 vette. I know one is in the passenger dash.

I am getting the radio refurbished and want to get some opinions on if you suggest keeping those same speaker location or if you'd place them elsewhere.

THANK YOU !!

Stock locations for 68 are in the kick panels

I installed a component set in back, not a very good pic(can't see the tweeters), but all I had at the moment. The EQ has since been moved to the front

If you'd like more info/pics I'd be glad to help

Actually I've been meaning to get in and take some better ones(other forum members wanted to see) maybe this would be a great time to get it done

Yep, thats a sub. Here's how I did the mounting:

For 68-72, remove all the hardware for the rear window storage. Bolt on some small angle brackets where the tray hinges mounted. I bought a piece of high-density particle board and cut it to 21"x46"(measure yours first as some cars may be a little different). Then measure and cut for the sub. I'm using a 10" Polk Audio, centered and about 7" from the rear. Cover the board with carpet and slide it between the side panels, till it rests on the angle pieces. Now secure the board to the angle with wood screws however you can get them in, I had to drill in at an angle to get the screws started. Then secure the front of the board at the two holes left over where the window storage tray latch was(board will bend a little at this point). Here's a better pic

You can also mount the amps on top out of view(mine are under the seat and behind the pass side dash panel)

To mount the components I started with this:

Here's some more pics

Hope all my rambling makes sense

Any more ?'s on this let me know, happy to help

do you have pics of the sub install? mounting locations and before pics? I didn't know there was a rear window storage, I don't think my car has one.

Mine didn't come with one either (somebody removed it), I figured it out by looking at the AIM manual and other cars.

The two forward holes are just behind the trim piece under the back window about two inches apart 10-24 thread is the size. The back ones you'll have to pull the carpet away to find, they're up on the rear bulkhead(guess that's what you'd call it) and I'd say about 40" apart. Should be four holes when the hinges mounted, but I only used two.

If you don't have an AIM, I'll scan and send the page the window tray is on. I don't have any before pics(I'm really bad about documenting things ) but I'll try to get out tonight and take some close-up pics of the mounting points and the hardware involved, that should help

OK, here we go....

this pic shows the two forward screws just behind the trim piece

I removed the small speaker set from the driver side rear corner. You can just about see the angle piece and the screw holding it in. It is right about where the wiring harness passes through into the interior

Heres a backside view of the 4" mid and 1" tweeter, along with the x-over

Close-up of the sub

Scanned copy of the tray. #11 is the bracket that is secured by the two forward screws I mentioned. #8 is the hinge, one on each side.

Hope this helps

do you have some sort of surround on the sub? or is it just using the rear deck?

No, the sub is not enclosed, it's just mounted on the board as my goal was just clean sound.
I can see where someone handy with a tape measure and a table saw can get in and make use of that upper deck space
