Does anyone have a simple way to install the door spring on a 69 vette? I have looked at the technical sheets but no success.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. :smash:
I haven't personally done it, but I understand it's a very simple process with the right tool, which resembles a bent screwdriver. Check your Mid America catalog for a photo. What I would do is just buy the tool. With the tool in hnad, it just takes a few minutes to replace the spring.
noxqsz is correct - the "tool" bent screwdriver -is very helpful. It is the type of job that you sort of have to do once to really understand. Not a complicated fix but hard to explain unles you have done it. Get the tool and give it a shot.
My 69, Just replaced the door springs on my 78 and my friends 74. The special tool is a must, but with it only about a 15 minute job. There is a great tech tip right on this board. Go to Tech Tips then select C3 Tips and you will see one for C3 door spring replacement. I followed it and what a breeze. If I had tried to folloow the tips that came with the new springs or the special tool - I'd still be working on it. The tool was the best $12 I ever spent. :flag
I agree, I printed the tip page and had it on the seat as I did the install. I was lucky enough to borrow the tool from a fellow club member, without it iI can imagine busted knuckles :mad and alot of beer. Wait! maybe that's not such a bad thing :cheers:
Total time around 15 min.
If you can't borrow one I'd say it's worth the money.
Good Luck
Mike;
I did the door springs on my 78 with a homeade intallation tool. Someone on the forum ( a long time ago) posted how to turn a regular screwdriver into the "special tool". I posted those instructions on my website at http://www.corvetteforum.net/c3/tunedport78 Click on tech links and you'll find it.
I took your advice and had my buddy make the tool. I understand the principal, now can I do the job? I'll keep you informed.
Thanks again for all your help. I like your web site.
