Default C3 Ram Air ?

Has anyone used this on their C3?

I know it's non functional but it could be easily made to work...

Hows about some pics of Ram air installations?

Kind of depends on what year your vette is. My 76 has a big solid metal bumber right where that would go . It would take a lot of cutting to fit that in my bumper.

Here's what I ended up doing for forced/cold air.

I like that! What size air cleaner is that, 14"? Where did you get the air box? Running under a stock hood?

Not sure how much ram there is but definitely cold air. Top rubber surround seals to the hood.

The radiator makes it difficult to do any type of forced air.
I always wanted to turn the two side grills into air induction with two hoses running up to the carb but its so difficult to get around the radiator. I guess if you run a intercooled turbo the piping usually gets routed under the radiator so you could follow suit with the ram air tubes up to a car box. Just be careful of ground clearance.
Either way, I'm interested to see what you end up with.

Default C5-like intake?

I couldn't use the stock air cleaner on my GMPP 350 HO with the Hollie car on it, so I took out all the air ducts from the top of radiator back. I don't have an engine-mounted fan either. My engine definite sucks in hot air from behind radiator.

I've been wondering if there is some way to modify a C5-type air cleaner to some type of cowl/hood around the carb to get unheated air from ahead of the radiator.

Do you think that will work?
Are there any carb cowls out there that I could join up to?

If you look at the pictures I posted above, this is basically the same thing. I'm taking cold air from forward of the rad utilizing the gap between the radiator and it's support and ducting it to the air cleaner that is shrouded.

That's kinda my plan... I was gonna run a c4/c5 air bridge over the top of the rad...

Now that I've found this little gizmo I think I'll run some 3" alloy tube out of a TPI elbow down the driver side of the rad under the rad to an airbox behind the bumper. I have an aftermarket front end to there is plenty of room and ground clearnce...

I was just looking for ideas (this forum is great)...

It's just an Eldebrock triangular air cleaner that I built an aluminum shroud around using 2" aluminum angle from Lowe's and added a snorkel to the front. The other end is an aluminum air "funnel" I made with sheet stock.

I built the whole thing from templates I made from cardboard, used rivets and some of that aluminum brazing rod you can get from Lowe's (http://www.bernzomatic.com/bernzomat...rnzoProd100064). The black accordion piece is from a C4 ZR1 and the top rubber surround seal is actually garage door rubber seal fastened with weather strip adhesive and sandwiched between flat aluminum stock and rivets.

It's a little crude in execution but it works real well routing cool air to the intake. After returning from a run I can pop the hood and the top of the air cleaner will be cool to the touch. There must be some ram benifit to it compared to taking air from behind the radiator, the front of the radiator is a high pressure area.

I've heard of some flat tubbing used to build an exhaust system for lowered cars. Something like this. http://www.drgas.com/store/home.php?cat=8 Alittle pricey but you get the idea. Maybe something like those frame clearance tubes. Maybe they make similar tubes out of aluminum and you can use those 3" flatten'd peices right at the bottom of the radiator. That would give you some additional ground clearance. will flow just as much as a perfectly round 3" tube but only takes up half the clearance.
Just a thought.

That I have read & understand,if hood scoop is located in middle
of hood, you will not get a ram air effect. GM did a wind test
(mid 60's) and found on a corvette, the only ram air effect was
at the base of the windshield. The L-88 cold air induction System
was born."And now you know,The rest of the story"!
