I'm a newbie so be kind. I bought a 68 conv. It has a 350 block dated 70. The mechanic believes the car was originally a 327/350 car due to the intake (3990490) and the tach red lines @ 6000. Does this make since?
I can purchase a 327 block (3914660) on ebay but I'm not sure if this is a vette 327 block and if it helps the car value? The trans looks like its a vette trans (19S705879). I've ordered the vette black book but it will take 1 week to get here and the block ends tomorrow. Can anyone help?
Do I have a 327/350 car and does it help by changing back to a vette 327 block? Also is the ebay block a numbers correct 327 block? Thanks for all your help.
327 and 350 use the same 4" bore block. 68 would have been a large journal crankshaft (earlier 327s had small journal cranks). My opinion is keep what you have unless you find 68 327 heads, intake, carb, etc. A NOM 327 vs NOM 350 value wise is not much different. If you must have a 327, buy a crank and pistons and keep everything else. You probaly have a 4-bolt block now with the 350 which GM never used for the 327.
I think the car has the correct aluminum intake, holley carb, and heads. I think they just replaced the block. Do you think it helps the value by putting the right years 327 block back in the car? The car runs fine now.
Correct '68 327 block is #3914678 for either hp version, 300 or 350. Correct carburetor for the 350 hp is a Q-jet, #7028219. No Holley on the 350 hp for '68.
VIN derivitive 19S705879 stamped on the tranny indicates a 1969 transmission for a '69 built in October, 1968.
Post your VIN. Are you sure you have a '68? There appear to be a small collection of '69 parts on your car.

I have a 68 327/350 vert. vin 23964 All numbers matching cast iron stuff. Gonna 383 route with a different block instead of machining. Gotta bunch of resources for a 68 if you need help. Very hard to find some parts as they were one year only or some parts (Ignition switch) is from a 67. I wish I had a 69. Good luck with the project.

Alum intake and Holley is not correct. Drive the wheels off, enjoy, leave it alone.
Are you serious about converting a non-original car to stock? If so, sell this one and buy one that is already stock. If you paid $15k for this one, a stock one will cost you $25k. In the long run, you'll spend way more than the $10k difference trying to make it stock, and you still won't have a VIN matching block unless you get a bogus stamping. If you keep the one you have, try not to view it as an investment. These cars are loads of fun, but they aren't a good investment.
If you do decide to go the org.route,i have the correct casting engine w/,or w/out the heads.Alot of other 68 stuff, too. The engine is rebuilt, but been sitting for a couple years.Sent you a pm.Kevin
Thanks everyone for your help. I think I'll do as someone said, "Drive the wheels off, enjoy, leave it alone" It drives nice but nothing like my 77 vette.
