At TDC comp. stroke & roter @ #1 term my timing dots on both the crank & cam sprocket are @ 12:00, The moter was rebult by the last person. Can someone explane why the dots are not @ 12 & 6:00.
Rotate it one more time and they will be 12 and 6. This is because the crank turns two complete turns to the cam's one. Both ways of lining up the marks are correct ---just 12 and 6 is easier to see without a straight edge to line them up. Jack
With the dots at 6:00 on the cam and 12:00 on the crank you are on #6 TDC firing position. This is not #1 TDC Firing position as many people assume. A common misconception. I guess they tell you to assemble the engine this way because it is easy to see if you are a tooth off or not.
If you rotate the crank 360 degrees, you will have both dots at 12:00 on the crank and the cam. This will be #1 TDC Firing Position.
