Tall valve covers with big block, my experience

I just got done putting on a set of Billet Specialties tall valve covers on my 73 Ls-4. IF you don't have power brakes this will be a peice of cake, if you do you will be in for a lot of work. I had to beat and grind quite a bit of clearance on the left cover to clear the booster, still doesn't clear as much as I would like since it does touch a little bit while the engine is cranking but does fine once the engine starts. The passenger side turned out to be much easier with just a little grinding on the back corner, fortunately neither of grinding marks are noticeable. Almost made me sick to gring on a set of 170 dollar valve covers  , but they looked great once done and give me plenty of room for valve train mods later on :D Just thougt I'd share what I found out.

Re: Tall valve covers with big block, my experience (73 LS-4)
That's good info for me. I'm also considering one of the smaller diameter boosters offered by Master Power. Then maybe I could wedge in a tall deck block... :smash:

I got around the problem with the power booster by going to a hydra-boost power brakes from chevy diesel trucks. Very very compact and very powerful unit.

I have tried the master power approach and they have smaller boosters but nothing that will work as a direct bolt in on a vette.
I have not researched this yet but instead of taking a chunk out of your vavle cover could you take a chunk out of the booster and then weld a flat piece back in?
Maybe this is not even possible due to what is inside of the booster where you would have to cut and weld it but I was just wondering about that option.
