Anyone used any of those stop engine leak additives? Did it work at all? Pretty sure I have some leaking past the seals and have a leak coming from somewhere I can't seem to find wondering if this would help at all or not?
IMO these additives are snake oil. Don't use them. You'll be much better off using brake cleaner to get rid of the accumulated junk and find out exactly where the leaks are coming from and then replacing the culprit seals and gaskets. Let us know where you find the leaks and then we'll help you out in the easiest way of replacing the gaskets or seals.

yep. Seal Swelling additives are not what you want. Why put a band aid on a cut that needs stitches? Why not fix the oil leak properly?
Actually, I believe that some of the sealer additives of today are excellent. Lucas is a brand that comes to mind. I have a '91 Mark VII and about 2 years or so ago the PS pump started leaking. While I felt the same way then as marshrat feels now, a friend suggested Lucas PS stop leak additive. I added a bottle and to my amazement the leak stopped immediately and hasn't leaked since. I have heard others tell me that the block sealers work equally well including those intended to seal head gaskets. I work p/t at an auto parts store and I can tell you that we sell a ton of this stuff. I'm not saying that all of it is good, but I think the better names like Lucas are not going to sell products that don't work. Just my 2 cents.
Another 2 cents.... I replaced the original power steering hoses on my 72, which were badly cracked and running on borrowed time. The original power steering ram was leaking a bit at the time. I refilled the ps pump with some type of leak stopper fluid (don't remember what kind, but it was a name brand). I haven't had to add fluid in over 2 years ~5000 miles, including a trip from NJ to FL. Leak stopped.
Bars leak just prevented a major upheaval at my house. The fully decorated Christmas tree was in a stand that started to leak all over the carpet. Put some of that powder in and saved the day.

Does Lucas make an oil supplement designed to "help" stop leaks? My Vette doesn't leak, but my Neon's rear main is starting to go and is making a mess of the driveway.
