Default intake help

I just purchased a edelbrock performer 2.0 for a stock , 1971 LS5, 454 oval port engine. When I pulled the original intake I noticed that the center water passage was blocked by the gasket. It was like this on both sides. The new gasket I purchased did not have the center passage blocked. Should thid be blocked?? Also, how do I get the divorced choke to work. The original does not fit on the new manifold. I know a lot of forum members use this intake and like it. If possible can someone post some pictures of the choke set up. Thanks

Center passage is an exhaust crossover, not water. If it is open, the carb and intake heat up faster for anti-smog reasons. I keep mine blocked. God bless, Sensei

If you are using the divorced choke, you need to leave the center exhaust passage open. I had this same question a few weeks ago. I went with a new carburetor with an electric choke, so I blocked off the center exhaust passage.
