Fuel Pump recommendations?
Hey gang, I am going to replace the 27 year old fuel pump on the Vette but have been curious as to what the general conscensus on mechanical pumps have been.
I have found OE mechanical pumps as low as $19
to a Carter at $35
a Performance unit at $60
and a Holley unit at $109 per mo.
Since my engine is only mildly tuned (slight cam, edelbrock intake & carb, shorty headers etc) what brand has worked best for YOU?
Identical stock replacement pump will service you best. Fitting and line issues are too often problems with aftermarket performance parts and are actually not better, just cost much more.
I've had nothing but problems with cheap, non-USA reconditioned parts. Nothing is more frustrating than having to make multiple installations and multiple trips to the parts store.

Yep, get a new Delco pump and it should last a while. Be sure to replace the molded hoses with new molded hoses-NOT straight fuel line. They will kink if you use straight hose.
hands-down go with a Carter pump, I prefer new over rebuilt, but that's just me.
A plain old 6 lb Carter pump will handle your motor and then some without spending a bunch. After going through 2 Holleys I went Carter and never had a starvation problem after that. They are great pumps

Thanks Mark & all of you, I have ordered the Carter from a supporting vendor ($51). Thanks for the tip regarding the fixed hose line. I think that was the reason for the fuel pump failure....I believe that the fuel line was kinked and this caused backpressure & leakage at the unit. (This is only an educated guess, other fuel specialist may tell me I'm crazy now).
