Value: 1976 Red 65000miles
I have a chance to purchase a red '76 with 65,000 miles. auto, T-tops, ac, new engine/Transmission, needs new seat covers, carpet and paint job. Asking 6500. Please advise. Thanks. :flag

You will spend quite a bit to do all of the above. You may find another car with less work and money needed. Is the engine and transmission the original, numbers matching? Both have part of the VIN numbers stamped into them.

New seat covers cost about $430 for leather, $370 for Leather/Vinyl, $190 for Vinyl.
Carpet sets are about $200
and those are the prices for just the parts, you have to install everything yourself.
A new paint job can be anywhere from $3000-$7000
So that's going to cost you $9890 - $14,130
Plus theres probably some mechanical stuff that needs fixing.

Recently painted mine and sub most of the work out;
Paint = $3600
New Bumpers (front and back) = $700
Media blasting (verses sanding or chemical strip) = $525

$6500 is alot for that car with that much work to be done on it. Reminds me of my first one. Had to have it and spent a bundle on it getting it in great shape. Bad luck came in the shape of a fire and the insurance paid me off at $6000 with $10,000 worth of receipts provided to them for backup. They jsut used the current market price which if I mnot mistaken is around $7000 it decent shape. Look around, you can do better.
