Does anyone know about the low fuel light. When does it come on and what triggers it. I know there is a circuit board. How do you test that board and know if it is working. I have checked the light.
78dave;
I don't think the low fuel light was used on 78's. I have the lense in my 78 but I haven't figured out why its there?????
You can check out the wiring diagram on my website at http://www.corvetteforum.net/c3/tunedport78 when you get there click on the electrical troubleshooting manual. Maybe you can figure it out. If you do please let me know.
I took the cluster out and the lens, light and circuit board is there to make it work. The light lens is yellow I think. Oh well, maybe this winter I'll tear into the instruments instead of the engine.
On '80s the light will come on, but the tank (on mine) has to be almost completely empty for it to work... Last time I saw the light I ran out of gas rolling into the gas station! :eek:
Basically has three inputs. power, ground, and pulls the same reading from the sending unit, that the fuel gauge uses. Mine was also shot. The transistors were bad on the curcuit board. Lucky for me a friend of mine's dad is and electrical guru and repaired the the transisters. Your low fuel light should come on as your gas needle enters the red area of the fuel scale. Your best bet is to get someone to try and repair it. It is a very small curcuit board and uses simple cheap parts to repair it. If you run into a dead end let me know I will try to get the part numbers for the transistors and send you a schematic, lou :cheers:
I'd like to know how to fix it. I've run out of gas at least three times in my '81 and never saw no steenkin light.
Also, my gas guage needle goes way over to the 3 o'clock position when filled.
It's never gone to "empty."
