Ive watched Pinks a few times now, and I dont get it......The drivers end up giving up whatever, giving lenghts based on this guy has broken whatever, this and that, in an attempt to make it "fair"
Now I know the driver that concedes ANYTHING would be open to loosing. Its a chance he takes
But today, I watched a guy creep during the start, after burn out, when the green light lit. He didnt go anywhere, becuase he felt his clutch was out, so he decided not to chance it
He shouldve lost right then and there, as it was the last race, and ANY moving, according to the rules, is considered starting a race, as stated in the show
But the other driver conceded, stating he 'didnt want to win that way
Then one guy lost second gear, the other lost 3rd, so they talked it out, and decided one would give the other so mant lengths, one would go on gas, etc, etc.........
Sounds like this show is about bargaining, and taking risks on that, not really about the driving
The show is more about entertainment than racing. The loser does get something for being on the show. It would be interesting to see what really goes on.
Most of the guys appearing on the show wouldnt last too long if they pulled the crap they do back in the days of the Sheridan Expressway in the Bronx or Connecting Highway in Queens. Many other places in and around N.Y.C. that were hotbeds of illegal street racing back when. It was fun while it lasted but got toooo hairy sometimes, Peace,,, Moosie
They can't use the tree. If they did, the host wouldn't be able to hop up and down and flap his arms. He needs the money they pay him to hop up and down and flap his arms.
I've seen it twice... the first time..and that also was the last time. Bunch of ricers yappin' about their uncle bens cars.. it all reminded me of TFATF
I watch the show. Its at least a car show, and beats the other crap and infomertials on TV. But the funny thing to me is, they bring crap to the show that breaks down, before the first run. Hardly one ever gets through the show without self destructing. If I couldnt build one better than that, I think I would stay away from national TV.
I've never managed to get through an entire episode and believe the "Jerry Springer" reference is dead on. Worthless piece of garbage but who am I to know what the public wants. Apparently there is a large enough following to merit another season.
I watch it a couple nights a week. After all it IS racing. Everyone can't race heads up or the guy with the $50k car is gonna take everyone elses car. Its really more about who can setup a race, know what they have in the bag and get the car down the track. Its basically POKER but with cars and racing.
Its definetly not like on the street with the rules and time limits etc but...very reminiscent when you are racing a car you figure is faster then yours and you are trying to talk your way into winning the race.
I doubt they REALLY turn the cars over to the other team when they lose but....its still cool to watch. Obviously 5.0 Mustangs are the preferred weapons. They are cheap to throw together, have awesome suspension for drag racing, stick a carbed 302 in it and a bunch of dope and let it rip.
The show is pretty entertaining for us guys that actually do or used to street race. We can call BS on everything in the show yet I still watch it.
Most of the time it is two pieces of junk that the owners both say, " Well, we just threw it together this week." I've only seen two episodes where there were two nice cars being raced. The best episode I've seen was a 99 Camaro and a 69 Firebird. Both were really nice cars and they both pulled the front wheels off the ground. Made a great show.
The special Pinks All-Out was good, as no sand-bagging was allowed, and no bargaining. It was purely racing, and much more interesting.
I wish it had some episodes that had track racing, as opposed to drags, which I find very boring to watch...

Those two brothers went ***** out for all 5 races, and the dueling wheel stands were cool. Best show by far. Most of the others were kinda boring. What made it really great was that they were both driving stick shift cars which required a little more skill and neither guy missed a shift. They obviously have had years of practice bangin the gears.
There was someone here on the forum that worked the lighting for that show....maybe he can shed some light on this subject of what goes on behing the sceens...lol

Here's the link, he says it's real and the guy looses his car.

Those guys are some friends of mine from down by STL,the winner doesn't keep the car,and seemed like both of them got some money for being on the show.that 99 camaro was the fastest N/A 6spd in country.
I had sent the info in my pro street 37 Ford I had,and was picked but I told them I didn't want to run some 9 or 10 second car, I wanted something that was very comparable to 37 which would run 7's,and they couldn't get anyone else in that bracket,is what they told me.
