Lower the air pressure in the tires for more traction, about 8 pounds should be a good start.
Actually a friend of mine won a March autocross in Western Maryland back in the '70's with about 6" of snow on the ground with this tire pressure. The 'real' autocrosses were slipping & sliding everywhere. My friend in his little Fiat smoked them good that day. A lot of puzzled faces by the 'big' boys that day.

This year is the first time I've put it in the ditch when I slid off the road during our first snow blizzard due to my bald tires. I now have brand new tires, and there's no stopping me now...!
Well, it can't be much fun seeing as how the 4 inches of slush we got today made my truck only drive sideways. Even in 4WD.

Should I fit a plow to the front of the car, or will the air dam work as such? I just drove 60 miles on ice and snow to get to work this morning, but I have to drive another 60 to get back home in the deep stuff. I went ahead and put the top on the car - I thought that would be a good idea. Any other ideas on how I should manage this?

I tried doing that the whole week we had the 18" of snow. I couldn't get her to lose traction no matter what I did. Mine's an SUV though...not a truck. Maybe that's the difference.

You must not have been trying hard. Or you have a 3.5 briggs and stratton in you SUV. I can spin my tires in 4wd on dry pavement. In 2wd if I nail it forget about it they are smoking.

I got 300+ from the modded 360 in the Durango, and when it's in 4x4, it's amazing. The only time it suffers is hard braking down a hill. Climbing and trudging and slush and turning...it's a beast. Perfect weight distribution, perfect power distribution...it's just a perfect bad weather truck.

So if I was to find center and lift it up it would not fall one way or the other? I guess every vehicle I have driven (which is a wide variety) including a lifted Durango with 36" tires was inferior.

Hey I'm not saying a thing about any car you've driven, including that Durango of yours. I'm speaking of mine, and how fantastic it feels and how wonderful it handles in inclement weather.

Well, you must have gotten lucky. It was my uncles Durango. Do you have the stock tranny? My uncle has the 5.9 RT edition and the tranny has gone bad twice. How is yours holding up?

Actually perfect. I have 180K on the OD, stick trans with no service except fluid and filters. I abuse the heck out of it too. I drive it like I do my Vette...when it's on road. It's got a huge kill list too. I have heard the bad transmission stories...but have never had problems with mine.

Lars,

While you were in town, I should have introduced you to a friend of mine who builds these.

Might not be quite as exciting as driving the Vette in the snow, but at least you dont have to dig it out. Not sure where you would carry the beer though....

The best FUN I had ever was driving my 67 Camaro in the snow and ice doing donuts everywhere!
Rear wheel drive and no weight in the back...... nothing is better.

The first Gen Firebird is on my lost. I drove one once that had the Pontiac 400, which is a stout little Big Block.
