I used to drive up 36 everyday from Denver to Boulder. Weather like this I was afraid of getting run over by the guys in Jeeps and 4wheel drive Toyota pickups. Fortunately they usually took each other out. Glad I'm in Texas now. Its not exactly top down weather, but our precipitation will drain off in an hour.

Actually, to provide a serious response...
An alternator will charge regardless of the direction it is spinning. The diodes and bridge rectifier (or triode in some units) keep positive positive and negative negative regardless of rotation (an alternator puts out AC current, which is converted to DC by the diodes - the AC current is identical regardless of rotation).

On non-fuel injected cars, the battery alone will actually allow the car to run for quite a while, even with headlights and accessories operating: As long as there is even a minimal amount of voltage to the coil, the engine will continue to fire. I once drove from Billings Montana to Salt Lake City with the alternator removed from the engine (it seized up), and half of the drive was after dark. The headlights were pretty dim when I hit Salt Lake 8 hours later, and the car would not start after I shut it down, but the engine kept running... On FI cars, you have to have enough voltage to run the high pressure fuel pump in the tank, and it shuts down at about 11 volts... bummer... let's hear it for carbs!

The Blazer is my friend Jeff's ("blkblt" on the C1/C2 Forum). I don't own a 4WD, so I use the Vette - regardless of weather. I've driven my Vette in the snow for 10 years now as my daily driver. This year is the first time I've put it in the ditch when I slid off the road during our first snow blizzard due to my bald tires. I now have brand new tires, and there's no stopping me now...!

That's funny... you're right: All the cars in the ditch are 4WDs, and they really do take each other out. I haven't seen a single Vette in the ditch today as I was out driving around.. .that must mean they're the best snow cars, right...? The guys in the Jeeps are afraid of me, because they (correctly) think I'm crazy - they give me space...

Yes! I got the eggnog fixins - the liquor store was open! I had the only Vette in the parking lot; the only other cars there were a Hummer with chains and two snowmobiles.
The sweater is a real hand knit Norwegian sweater - I just wear it over a T-shirt in cold weather. These guys out there with gloves, hats, and ski parkas just crack me up. Where have all the MEN gone...?

So you're a real Norseman huh? That's badazz. Ever dressed as a Viking for Halloween? That'd be cool to see.

> Need help trying to drive home....

Downhill or uphill ??

If downhill, just use racing slicks...

While you're driving by, can you pick up my son (in Dillon) and bring him
back to sunny Dallas ? Shouldn't be more than 16 hours...

I had a felling this would happen....You CURSED yourself when you were at my house for the Detroit tour. When we were talking about the winter weather, I mentioned that being that you are in CO. you probably get hit pretty hard with snow in the winter. And as I remember your response I think it was "Well you know, actually CO. is much farther South than MI. geographically"
NEVER TEMPT THE SNOW GODS!!!
Hey, I'm glad you made it home safe.
And a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND DONNA FROM MARK AND JANICE AND THE CATS!!!
Oh and as a closing note ....There has been almost no accumulation of snow in the Detroit area this year YET!!!! Opps now I think I just cursed MYSELF!!! Darnit

Hei Lars!
I thought you to be a Dane! But now I realised that you have your origins little bit norther. I salute you as Finne! Norwegians should know how to survive in winter conditions and yes you did it nicely. Did you have decent winter tires or just summer rubbers in your Corvette?
Jag vill önska för dig

Riktigt God Jul och Gott Nytt År!

If you are pulling them with your Vette you should consider new Nokia winter tires for sport cars. It's Nokia WR I guess. They have tires wide enough for Vettes, without spikes which is sad. I have Nokia Hakkapeliitta 2 tires with spikes under my Volvo 850 STW and they grip decently.

In the old days we use to do something called bumper skiing. Just grab the rear (chrome)bumper and hang on.

Hej DWncchs! This is easy. Little bit sweadish and norwegian mixed together. It could be little more tricky if Islanders show up! Understanding would change exponentially harder!

Yep...and I saw a friend try that. Let's just say that you can't see the potholes and manholes as they come up in front of you, and the guy on the skate board will end up putting his face into the tailgate and possibly getting dragged a few yards before letting go.
