Are you going to dump the exhuast under the car? If so the gas tank acts as a big drum and dumping the exhuast under there can lead to alot of resonance.
Dumping out the rear at least lets you run away from the noise.
The other problem is dust. If you have turn downs at the end of the exhuast system it really kicks up the dust, clouds of dust and the wilder the cam the more dust you kick up.
Here locally, a place doing an inspection would not pass your car if your exhaust gas exits the system a certain distance from the seating position furthest back. On cars, it's 24" and on trucks it's 12". If those exhaust tips dump within a foot or two of where you sit in that Vette it may not pass inspection.
Thanks for the suggestions on potential of noise. I have the hardware and tips to run out that back, but, just want to leave it under the car for now -- since this is just a play car, noise inside is not really a factor (at this point )

I know that feeling, but as soon as you get on a highway, and the RPMs don't change...the resonance stops being a good sounding exhaust...because you separate the two in your hearing. It starts to really get to you.
