Default Q Jet Foreign Object

I started to rebuild my Q Jet on my 70 Mercury Cyclone Spoiler. I don't believe it has ever been apart, and the car has been sitting for 30 years. When I removed the secondary metering rods, both had bent ends. Also, when I removed them, down in the well area was a small plastic/rubber hat type plug. I am going to call it a plug, because I don't know what it is. Does this go somewhere, or did it just fall in there during assembly? It was just laying in there.

I'm still trying to wrap my mind around you having a GM carb on the Ford? Are you sure it's a Quadrajet?

Rochester sold carbs to other manufacturers. The Cobrajet was a modified Quadrajet. As for the foriegn object, a picture would help in identification. God bless, Sensei

Does it have a hole in it? The only things I can think of is the collar to the power piston or the rubber cup on the end of the accelerator pump.

Maybe a PO left it in there by accident when servicing the carb.

Need pics.

I figured I would practice on the Mercury before I tackled the one on my Vette. I will have to figure out how to post pic. The carb # is 7040287, and I don't see it listed on Lars list in his paper. Later..and thanks for the inputs.

Both Ford & MoPar used Q-Js.
I fixed the Q-J on a girl's ex-police MoPar.
I put this up for a f*rd guy who posts against street performance.

Here is a picture of the foreign object. It is below the screw so you can get an idea of its size.
