I have a 77 L48. When my headlights are on, I have no brake lights. With the headlights off, the brake lights work fine, except when I put my foot on the brake, the front and side marker lights illuminate. It's very frustrating and scary driving at night since I have no brake lights. Please help!!
9 times out of 10, when electrical circuits do strange things, you have an open ground. Check all your ground straps and connections to ground. When you lose a ground, the circuits start to take alternate routes, following the path of least resistence, and vary according to what switch is on/off.

Reason: error
Follow the wire harness from the tail lamp housings to the ground on the drivers side behind the rear wheel. Look carefully at the light socket grounds, take the bulbs out and check them out. Same deal on the front running lights
Yep, It is seeking a ground through the only path it has, and thats the parking light circuit. When the parking lights are activated, it has no where to go, so it doesnt work. Find the ground problem, and that will fix the brake lights.
